Best Japanese BL of the YEARR!

Everything about Fake Fact Lips is just simply perfect.

The acting - Both actors delivered excellent performances. There were even times when I forgot they were acting loll! Not once did the acting take me out of the moment. Even the supporting actors did such a good job. Also, I wanna give a special shoutout to the young actors who played high school Ryo and Zen! I truly appreciate how similar they actually look like to the adult them and how they perfectly embodied their vibe and dynamic.

The romance - I'll rave about this forever. The CHEMISTRY is chemistry-ing like omgg. This series had me rolling around, squealing, and kicking my feet in the middle of the night because of how cute and perfect they are for eo. My pillow deserves financial compensation for everything I put it through. And don't even get me started on the amount of love scenes this series served us, like holy. I stopped counting after maybe the third or fourth time, idk. At that point, counting was none of my business. Both actors seem so comfortable with each other. No cringey fish kisses, just lots of romantic moments!

The production - Even though I did notice Zen and Ryo wearing the same tuxes the entire time (lolll, those tuxes were working overtime), the production didn't disappoint! So much beautiful scenery, great camera angles, and aesthetically pleasing scenes.

The story - NOW we're talking! First of all, I love that this drama didn't shy away at all from the mature scenes. Finally, a JBL that delivers the spice without making toxicity part of the package. What I also love most is that they didn't stop being “rivals” after becoming bfs. I see that happen a lot in dramas and books, where they get together and suddenly the rivalry disappears. Fake Fact Lips gave me exactly what I was looking for: our good ol' reliable fav trope, Rivals to Lovers!! They fell in love and STILL needed to win. That's commitment to the relationship AND the competition loll. I love that their personalities didn't change after they got together, and that the story actually makes sense. Every episode had me looking forward to the next one, with surprises that kept me hooked the entire time. I especially loved the last episode, which tied everything together perfectly.

Overall, I still can't believe how underrated this series is. Fake Fact Lips is such a breath of fresh air. A lighthearted, feel-good drama that I believe EVERYBODY should watch. I don't wanna count how many times I've said “perfect” in this review, but that's what this drama is! My vocabulary has left the chat, and “perfect” is covering the entire shift. This is FOR SURE my fav BL of the year. I will definitely re-watch!
