Despite the Chief Justice and other justices refusing to attend, the party plans to push ahead with a hearing on May 14. Never before has political power directly attacked the head of the judiciary. The Democratic Party is also pursuing bills to nullify false information charges tied to their candidate and to halt criminal trials for those elected president.

The Supreme Court has declined to attend the hearing. After the Democratic Party’s open pressure campaign, the courts postponed several sensitive trials, including the remand hearing on Lee’s election law case, the Daejang-dong trial, and a perjury appeal, until after the election. When the election law case was delayed for two and a half years, judges remained silent. Now, some plan to criticize the Supreme Court’s swift ruling at a May 26 judicial conference, calling it politically biased. It appears some judges are coordinating with Democratic Party lawmakers in a campaign to shake the Chief Justice.

The Democratic Party is demanding Jo’s resignation and mobilizing every tool available—hearings, special prosecutors, investigations, and impeachment—in an effort to force him out before his term ends in June 2027. Having secured legislative and executive influence, they now appear set on bringing the judiciary under their control."
