No, she was not sad. Her actions and statements in that scene were manipulative ploys to hook his emotion. She knows that he has a “Save the damsel in distress personality” and, she is using that character trait to cling to him and pull him away from Gil Chae. She studied him and had others watch him earlier on several occasions. And she stated several times that she would win him at all cost. That princess is playing the long game.

Just a thought. The Princess likes to get want she wants. She wants JH. There was a quick statement by the General claiming the she refuses to marry a Manchurian man. Again, she wants JH real bad. Could she have poisoned her father in the hopes that the successor would allow her control over the Joseon slaves. She knew that JH would do anything to protect the slaves. Granted dad was already ill, but she could have wanted to push him over the edge. Episode 17 should reveal more about how the JH and Princess scenarios plays out.

as I watched the preview for episode 7/17. One quick scene showed ML in a rush to find rice cake with beans for FL who stated that she had a sudden craving for the dish. Could she be pregnant? From his behavior and that grin on his face when he brought the dish and watched her eat it made me think she was pregnant and he was an expectant dad. Did anyone else see that?

Well said. At least you watched the entire show. The moment I saw what was happening, I tuned out. Writers have a warped fascination with clingy, crazy 2nd and 3rd female leads who hog all of the air time with their schemes to separate loving couples. I am becoming weary of these types of series. I can accept couple having hurdles to overcome, but when writers introduce others that try to force a relationship with an unwilling partner by lying and scheming until the last episode that drives me bonkers. Writers create cheesy flashbacks of intimate seconds the couple had together and then in the last 10 minutes of the series, the couple is shown staring lovingly into each others eyes (implying that they are finally going to get together), or going their separate ways, or worst. Howabout showing a couple working together to face threats? Self-sacrifice for love while noble can be ineffective, inefficient, and most certainly tragic.

You may be spot on. But, the potential outcome is still most depressing. JH looked beat down and on the edge if despair. I say the edge because the look in his eyes when he turned to face the farmers was deadly. Untrained soldiers,in previous episodes, never warranted that look from him. That gaze was the one he trained on the intruders just before he engaged them to kill them.

Here are my final depressing thoughts about this series. The love triangle is not between ML, FL and FL’s first husband. It is between ML, FL, Ryang, and the princess. ML dies on that beach at the hands of Joseon farmers who stayed in Qing. They seek to kill him to save themselves from being slaughtered due to his actions. He either attempted and failed to killed the princess uncle trying to rescue the princess, or he attempted and failed to killed her because she had someone hurt Gil Chae. No one else was standing on that beach with him because his comrades died helping him. He looked very tired and worn out standing on that beach alone reflecting on when he first met Gil Chae. Ryang went nuts due to the ML, his first and only unreciprocated love, being killed and that is why he is in the nut house waiting for the ML to come rescue him like he did when he was a child, chanting that he will come when the time is right like he has always done for him. I hope these depressing thoughts are very wrong. I am a happy ending person and I hate to get hooked on series that ends tragically. To those who may respond that that is unrealistic. True, if I want realism and tragic endings I can look at the news and follow current events. My position is, I don’t go on difficult roadtrips just to end up at suck ass destinations. Where is the enjoyment in that? That’s the way I feel and I’m sticking with it.

If Ryan’s expected JH to do the horizontal Pooka with him it would have happened way before now. I get the sense that JH has always treated him like a little brother, but as we can see that by the way Ryang cuddles up to JH each time they are alone and JH is asleep Ryang wants more.

I think that he’s the one in part 1, episode 1 that is in the mental lockup.
