actually, Peng Xiaoran is the one doing the over-acting.
at least she's not underacting but right now, yeah, she's giving her all. on point with her expressions, but she is going over the line.
Her true identity is now more interesting. Like who is Ji Man, why does she know medicine. why is she clever, at least in the first episode.

oh so, if that's cannon fodder meaning. then we still have that here in the form of the concubine Wen Wan.
The real Nie Sangyu is more of like a dead first love in the plot right now. I don't think she was more evil than Wen Wan. She kinda has a bad reputation but she didn't even bother to fix the people's opinion of her because she was so devoted to Ning Yuxuan. Compared to Wen Wan, at least she was true to herself.

i kinda feel though that Ning Yuxuan might have liked Nie Sangyu even a little when they were young, he don't seem like the guy you can force to marry. And Nie Sangyu's feelings for him seem to be genuine like she really loved the guy and did everything for him. Thus they got 4 years into the marriage. The misunderstanding is not yet really clear. I think there's more to the plot regarding him marrying the concubine, it might be a politically related move. And it just happens that there are people who are trying to break them up. Too bad, NSY is already dead apparently? so she's the forsaken dead first love. Ji Man is the replacement/present love who just so happens to be the lost lost twin sister of NSY.

the thing is, right now she believes she is "Nie Sangyu". oh i forgot to mention, we have the amnesia plot as well for this show. hahaha.. so going back to that. i really felt for Ji Man whenever she hears from people the things she "did" in the past and she sincerely apologizes for it every now and then. She's gonna have a breakdown soon when she finds out that she's not actually the bad girl in town everybody hated. It's like finding out your paying the debt you didn't even owe.

if that's the plot of the novel then they must have totally changed it in this adaptation because it's not a transmigration plot anymore. And the FL is basically a long lost twin sister of the "cannon fodder", if that's referring to the hated wife of the male lead.

I agree. and do you guys have a OCD kinda thing, were you're starting to like a drama and really starting to think that this is good. so there's ahype/expectation but also due to that, mid show, the show starts to decline in quality and ending wise, not good. So personally, i'm not jumping to conclusions when a drama is still ongoing. Good things take time, however not everything is at it seems so a lot can still happen with the plot ongoing.

i was holding myself from commenting on ongoing dramas that I really want to succeed plotwise/storywise/ratings-wise. That means, I'm starting to love this show. But I read your comment regarding abusive ML. I don't think he was an abusive ML. Later on it's revealed that the new concubine that the "bad" NSY stabbed was actually evil af. NSY didn't want to stab her, she was aiming for the husband out of anger, but the bride intercepted and NSY actually held her dagger before it could hurt anyone. But the concubine pulled the dagger into herself in a slick move so everyone thought that NSY really stabbed her and made her look bad. Her motives are not yet fully revealed. But with the ML and NSY it still became a misunderstanding afterall. The scene where you saw the ML chasing NSY to the cliff, he was actually just trying to capture her so she can pay for what she was accused of. He still doesn't know that it was not intentional. And with suicide, he was actually remorseful and it was obvious in his face that he didn't want that to happen.

Her doppleganger is Zhang Jing Yi for sure.

yeah, it's not an endearing trope. It's cringe actually.
