the minute i saw gil taemi on my screen i knew i had to take your list very very seriously. and with bangwon as your #1 well, wow i don't think I've never ever resonated with a catalog as much as this ngl dksafjj. SFD is too good a drama id have no problem nominating it for 1st place in nearly all aspects of judgment. personally, i can't really think of any striking characters off the top of my head but there area a few that I'm partial too (drama moreso than specific character tho methinks). -idk if this counts but namgil's role in "live up to your name"?? o man he was one fascinating goof ball. he developed so well throughout the drama and really grew into his role as a selfless doctor and selfless lover. i appreciate the dimension of his personality too bc he often acts dumb and cavalier but he's actually quite dependable if you put him on the spot. -the brotp trio in "mr.sunshine"!! i loved them all so fookin much guys you dont unDERSTAND and the dialogues or shared scenes between them were absolutely magical. 2nd lead and potential love interest of FL kim hui sung especially surprised me! he seemed like a one-dimensional character at first (rich charismatic playboy who's spoiled and cant seem to figure out what he wants outta life besides making others' miserable lol) and yes he really was all that but... he was also selfless and genuine and a surprisingly steadfast, loyal, and gentle soul. by the end, he and his friends all played their roles as bittersweet martyrs and i expected it from the other two, not from him. and that's what made it all the more sweeter, all the more bitter. - lee kang to in "bridal mask". need i say more? - baek yi kang and baek yi hun from "nokdu flower". the love between brothers going spoiled and rotten because of their standings in opposite sides of the war. it made both the characters extremely powerful in their own right,, with yi kang starting out as the villain on a path to redemption and yihyun the hero on a path to malevolence. i especially adore yikang tho like his trademark protagonist stUBBORNESS to not only survive but shave off the eviler/bitter parts of himself to save his country and people and it is just- ugh a sight to behold. jungsuk always does his characters justice. - last but not least, ddol bok/kang chae yoon from "tree with deep roots". as the parent (or child??) story of SFD I'm sure its a surprise to absolutely no one that I'm mentioning it here. fisrst off, ddol bok is probably one of the most ferocious and bitter characters ive ever seen portrayed as a protagonist. i absolutely adoRe the anti-hero aspects of his character and his harshly pragmatic philosophy (especially in the face of more powerful characters, COUGH king COUGH, with ambitions/moral values as abstract and intangible as wishful juvenile fantasy).
so there's my listue. thanks for sharing yours and kicking my ass into doing the same. i wrote a hella longass essay wow kdjhf :')) i realize i totally tunnel-visioned into ML's in like all these smh me and my shitty memory i can only remember protagonists. (tangent but i really agreed with you in regards to jichangwook. that mans has so much potential like eye-candy?? yes he is that but he didn't start as soLELy that smh. hope we get to see more of his talent in action)
its started out strong but it's not giving me the same vibe i liked from the beginning. I think the drama worked better when it focused on the ml, he's a very interesting and engaging character. Just finished episode 4 and it looks like all the attention is leaning towards the fm and she doesn't have as much dimension as i would've liked. the story would've untangled better if it focused on the relationship between devil and rip, as well as rips journey towards redemption. but ofc, ill keep from making a decisive judgment till the end.
i don't understand the low rating, its definitely the only drama I'm looking forward to this season :'') although the pacings a lil quick this iS a longass drama so we got plenty of time for character and plot development. yi kang is kinda my favorite person evER and seeing him reform into a freedom fighter revives all types of PROTECC feelings in me istg. the romance w/ja in isn't being developed as deeply as i would've liked but I'm willing to give the drama/characters the benefit of the doubt and let it flow. (ja in is also a fav of mine,, her character displaying qualities of strong headedness, strength, morally upstanding ethics, etc, but in a wholesome and credible way. none of that female pigheaded bullshit). yi hyun pushing away from the wrong but also from the right gets me anxious and worried. his mental state isn't at its best and it'd ache me to see the two brothers confront each other due to conflicting beliefs. wfaljdfksal i can't wait for what's to come
I'm so in love with this post. bleSS YOU for implementing 'falling for innocence', that was literally one of my favorite dramas of all time. underrated dramas that I adored include; - life on mars: my ratings 9.5/10 (recent and FANTASTIC. i can't express my love in words, i just can't) - hello monster: 9/10 (seo in gook. park bo gum. need i say more? but tbh, this drama is incredible and the brothers got my heart aching for literally years) - live up to your name: 9/10 (i think this drama was crazy and unexpectedly good. also, i noticed how hot nam gil is and I'm thirsting after him even tho he a priest now lmaoo) - mr. baek : 9/10 (although this one's a major hit or miss for most.) - high school king of savvy: 8.5/10 (another seo in gook drama, he's just so fucking good) - kingdom: 8.5/10 (i hope you watched this on netflix, its UMPH. zombies in a historical drama??? I LIVE FOR ORIGINAL SCRIPTS) - brain: 8/10 (angsty and bitter ha kyun is just a turn on i guess) - dr. frost: 8/10 (this ones really unique and special and my baby smol) - special affairs team ten: 8/10 (since you liked missing noir, you'll probs like this one too) - tree with deep roots: 8/10 (UGHHH IM REWATCHING NOW)
officer jang's death really hurt me. this drama was a masterpiece in every way, but its ending was a bit anticlimactic/bittersweet. In the original movie, the king and his officer had a beautifully rendered goodbye in a bundle tears, incredible loyalty, and self-sacrifice. the series didn't even get my bros to look into each others eyes, especially as officer passed. eunuch got a hug and everything. I just feel like officer jang deserved a hug too :''(
unbelievable. I would never have noticed the metaphors and meaning behind the props, characters, plot, script, symbols of each scene. this article is beyond magnificent. its an intellectual film analysis i would pay real money to learn.
Hey loves, just wanted to pop by and ask what drama the very first screenshot/pic is taken from? Also, this article is amazing. I'm a new J-drama fan and I can't wait to get started on ALL of these!
Definitely not a drama that everyone would like but I personally LOVED it! I think it deserved a chance. The bromance is adorable, the main leads are cute and easy to deal with (if you can ignore the major age gap and weird love triangle going on). I think it'd be a cute and enjoyable drama to watch if your not a major critic, or looking for something a little more than just entertainment. Pfft, i already watched this drama twice and I personally gave it a super high rating. Don't just judge based on the comments loves! Check things out yourself and discover your personal tastes and pleasures!
