May be the best of 2025
I've been waiting for this drama since I watched Fangs of Fortune last year and fell in love with Hou Ming Hao. I fell for his performance and acting skills and when I found out he was going to be playing a role alongside Lu Yu Xiaou whom had blown me away with her role in My Journey To You, I was hella excited!!!
And it did not disappoint!
We follow young Ming Xian, the crown prince of Yuangguang Palace and top warrior of an annual contest held within the Hexu realms. She's been walking around looking like a boy all her life and has to keep up the ruse of being a crown prince for the sake of her home but then she loses for the first time in 7 years to a lower realm and faces the consequences.
Someone has poisoned her during the contest and under the disguise of her true self, Ming Yi, (the female she) she travels to the winning realm to find the warrior who defeated her. She wants to make him heal her or steal the antidote only he possesses.
Ming Yi manages to find a way into Ji Bo Zai's home and become his lady of the house. Through wit and perseverance, she twists him around her fingers and plays him like a fiddle. Only.. she doesn't know he has use for her too and the two become each others pawns.
Ar first the drama is very humorous. It's funny, quick and witty. Ming Yi and Jo Bo Zai dance around each other and keep using each other for their own gain until they begin to trust one another and feelings come into play. It's such a beautifully done slow-burn and their chemistry almost burned through my screen. Their kisses were hot and the push-and-pull between them was to die for.
The only thing I didn't really like were the climaxes in the story. They felt a bit... anti-climactic. The story builds up so much around certain plot points but when it comes down to it, it doesn't really pull it through. I missed the WOW factor a little.
Don't get me wrong. I absolutely adored the drama and loved every bit of it but it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat. Some of the bigger epiphanies weren't that impactful, such as: the emperor of Yuanguang palace telling her to never come back and we keep seeing her at her old home. Or the breaking point of Situ Ling. He never really broke and always reverted back into the puppy dog that trailed after Ming Yi.
I do really recommend this drama. It's a must-watch for anyone who loves Xianxia dramas. It's one of the best this year.
