But now their censorship becomes more strict when it comes to a hateful black or red flag ml.They toned down Tantai jin from TTEOTM(yes he was pitiful but he had done many bad things which wasn't included in the drama),murong jinghe from KMLM (they made him sad boy in the drama lol)and many more .I don't count Xie wei or xie zheng in this category when i read the novels.They were Grey shaded and multilayered characters to me ,not same as li cheng yin or murong jinghe (novel ver)
I read Goodbye my Princess novel ,even though the ml was trash but the writing was good,but i didn't felt the same with this one and this novel didn't have good reviews like the author's other novels like eastern palace(novel of GBMP), tears in heaven ,
What i meant to say ,having hateful ml is not the problem as long as the writing is good and the ending is fair, people will watch it.But if it's about similar trope then the story would be kinda predictable.I like her many works at the same time i didn't like many of her novels has similar concept where ml is trash and fl get abused by them which is why many readers complained that even if she wanted to write tragic stories ,she could write it with different tropes .
I am watching and reading cdrama and novels for many years so i am saying in that pov .If the writer becomes the screenwriter and if she wants to write tragedy then at least i hope the plot will be different than her other works.And the novel ver of Zhe Yi miao is more suitable for a movie because there was no plot beside misunderstanding .that's why at first i wasn't happy for Linghe being the rumored lead.But now from the synopsis it's look like an original script .I hope best for him as it will be his first republican drama.

There was a time when costume dramas with 50+episodes were engaging .But now most dramas are losing the plots after 15 episodes .
I like all actors but the producer should have invested more in hiring good directors and screenwriters .

20 episodes are okay for modern dramas but not for costume dramas .

The editing was good as well.Plots were engaging .So episode numbers were never the main problem ,the problem is with the screenwriting and directing ,which is happening with this drama.They casted many well known actors but didn't hire good directors and screenwriters .
chinese costume dramas are different than other industry .Most chinese dramas are a adaptation of a novel .They can't adapt a novel based costume dramas in 20 episodes . If they wants then they can do it with original script .But adapting a 400 chapters novel into 20 episodes is a disaster to me and already they are butchering many hit novels to show everything in 36/40 episodes .
