Alright folks, listen up. Like almost every other article I have written on MDL, I knew this one will also bring a huge set of differing opinions, spark some controversy and start a debate. That's great, I appreciate all of your input and insightful comments but after reading a few recurring POVs in this section let me clear some things up:
-I don't hate women, I am not promoting patriarchy and I am not holding male characters to a different standard like some people seem to think. I have an article up there criticizing MLs just the same. I have an article up there criticizing dramas. I also have articles appreciating amazing MLs, Fls and dramas so yep, there isn't discimination or any other bs here- just opinions.
-In this article, I am telling y'all what I felt about these few certain characters in specific shows. The reason these characters are the way they are is because of, in my opinion, either bad writing or inadequate portrayal by the actress playing them. Do I have a vendetta against these actresses? Lol no. Am I creating hate for a certain 'type' of character? Nope. That's why I specifically mentioned that some drama writers and actors make flawed characters work (WHIB) and they break the stereotypes (damsel in distresses/ heroines who appear weak on the surface)while others cannot. It's really not that deep.
-Lastly, I understand that when someone says something bad about a character you love, you feel upset. As you can see, I reply to every comment in as much detail as I can. I've found logic in a lot of well put together comments that disagreed with me and they have helped me see other sides to a situation.
However, let me be clear. These are my opinions. You don't like them, you can say what you want against them, that's your right. But if you are going to private message me with just plain hate, personal attacks and leave comments filled with patronizing superiority, I sincerely ask you not to bother, because there will be a time where I stop replying with grace and start replying in kind and then I won't be responsible for any injuries caused. ^-^
Other than that, enjoy the article and keep letting me know your unique thoughts, you beautiful beautiful people!
I've only seen W, and Oh Hae Young fully. I dropped Black and I'm still debating on finishing Cruel Romance. I…
I get exactly what you are saying. I understood where she was coming from and her motivations. However, it just never stopped and there was no growth which made me feel like the drama lost the point it was trying to make. ^^
Lol, someone else who finally agrees with me about Oh Hae Young. She was so annoying and whiny. I couldn't understand…
I think I should be saying this to you! Someone who finally agrees with my POV on Oh hae Young ahahha 'cause most of the people in this section seem to think otherwise!
I keep asking the same questions over and over again - are the producers and screen writers making it look that…
Excellent comment. The FL in innocent man also comes to mind. She was supposed to be this baddie who somewhere along the episodes completely lost her character and started revolving around the ML.
Thankyou for reading the article. I really loved your comment. It's a different perspective than mine but one…
Your comments are the most interesting ones I have read on this article. Thankyou for leaving me such insightful replies.
Alas I don't really remember BTIMFL all that well to truly agree but I understand your perspective. It has also given me more to think about.
People on this site have extremely diverse opinions. More often than not I feel like my definition of strong women and asshole heroes deviate from many others. Just a tiny example: I thought the FL in Mars despite her crying and appearing 'weak' was actually a strong badass because of the way she developed over the episodes and dealt with all the shit life handed to her. But you'll see many people arguing that she was a damsel in distress that got on their nerves.
Similarly, Ji Chang Wook in Empress Ki. I thought he was a brilliant anti- hero. He did bad things but that was what his character demanded and he didn't know anything else from life but you'll see MDL-ers huff and puff about how he was such a jerk and how they hated him.
So what I mean to say is that with this article, rather than criticizing certain 'types' of characters, I am merely criticizing the way these particular characters were written in these specific shows and how they felt to me.
Alas, the message is clearly not getting across as people accuse me of being against women and promoting patriarchy, writing out of spite for certain actresses, whining about FLs, being unrealistic and other ridiculous but equally entertaining crap. lol just another day at MDL- I love it. ^-^
Also I get what you are saying but I am criticizing the FL because they can make or break a drama for me rather than the ML. If the FL is amazing, I'll watch the drama even if the ML is so-so but if the FL sucks then I cannot continue. Because by default being a woman myself, even despite the obvious male hero allure, I tend to feel more emotional and root more for the female characters!
Code Geass is an anime similar to Death Note.
P.S Thanks for being chill, even when you yourself don't agree with what I write!

Have a good day! ❤
That's why at the end I specifically mentioned WHIB which has a supposedly 'weak' heroine on paper but how that drama made it work.
