I don't know, i feel like the show does a good job showing that they're attracted to each other because of their conflicting views on love and sex. And not in the simple "opposites attract"-trope. They both embody these conflicting views ; they meet really sure of their beliefs, of what they expect. But when they meet, seeing someone as sure of their views as they are, they are challenged in their beliefs. They get each other thinking, reconsidering, and broadening their horizons. And that's what draws them to each other.
Also, you say he has no charms but he's shown to be hard-working, honest with himself and with others, occasionally vulnerable.
And the fact that they're both beautiful helps as well haha
