They shouldn't be using the word 'she' when addressing her, and still not know she is female. He wouldn't be calling her a she, talking to people who clearly don't know she is a she.,or they'd be confused. Sun calls her she, around Mujin, long before Mujin knows she is a girl, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about, and then Mujin is surprised 'she's a woman!', after having called her 'she' for eight episodes already. The romance is one of the best. As this is one of the least toxic male leads you will ever see in Chinese cinema. This cannot be judged by the usual drama standard, this isn't slow burn, as you know and understand it. I suggest you just start watching, and try to sleep before ep15, I remind you now, because I assume you too have a life outside of The Long Ballad, and you don't wanna die in front of a device.
This drama has the most comments in Chinese mydramalist history. That's really all you need to know, going in.
