If you look at it as the first part showing a couple perfectly synchronized until they shed the masks then moving…
No, that's not what I meant. I meant that they changed the characters and the tone of the drama in the second half, and that has nothing to do with the fact that truth of their marriege surfaced. The comic parts, for instance, didn't fit at all. The characters changed in the end in a way that's not normal or believable. The storyline was good but lacked depth in the characters. But I still enjoyed it. I recommend the watch, just expect that the it's 2 completely dramas: the first hald and the second.
I dropped after 4 eps. I do not recommend. One odof the worst scripts of the year. I feel sorry for the actors, production, because everything else was perfect. But it just goes to show that nothing saves a drama with a poor script.
This is a cute drama, but you can't help thinking that while this lovely story was going on in Japan, the Japanese were devasting China and Korea... Like others here, I also preferred the second couple.
Definitely worth a watch! one of the best Chinese historical dramas. It was even better than the first part, Flourished Peonies. Still doesn't come close to The Double, but thoroughly enjoyable.
It's not the best romcom or best chinese drama you'll watch, but it's just great entertainment if you're in between dramas, watching weekly eps. At times, it made me laugh out loud. Worth a watch if you want something light.
Amazing up until about half of it, then the writing doesn't hold up. They just got lost in the way. The acting makes up for it, and made me watch it till the end. Lots of gaps in the storyline but still entertaining.
I didn't drop it, which is a good thing as I have been dropping lots of dramas lately. It keeps you wanting to watch till the end, and some parts of it are really enjoyable. I think up to the middle, it's great, then it goes downhill. Unlike others, I don't think the problem is that she chases him, but that the story doesn't hold up. It's a not convincing great love story. In the very least, it's immature, teenager love. And the actors don't convincr as teenagers. I don't get Asian dramas with 30-something actors playing 15-year olds... anyway... The Best Thing, with the same ML is much better.
I'm in ep 4. Background story, acting, sound track, 90's vide, all great. But the writing? so flawless. The main character is portrayed as naive but very clever. However, the rest of the team are supposed to be at least experienced to have achieved the success they've had so far. Why would they make a delivery after IMF crisis without first checking the buyer's financial status? why sign a contract without reading the TWO pages with the terms that are clearly unfavourable? why accept the confiscation without even checking if the clause is valid (looks to me like an abusive clause, therefore null and void; unlawful enrichment with the confiscation). Why not even consult a lawyer? by the way, the return deal would only be valid with the Typhoon company, why just assign the Italian contract to Pyo instead of trying to challenge the storage contract? That's just stupid, not heroic or moral! And by the way, if he's so clever, why didn't he think of storing the fabric in his greennhouse, a much better protected space than the run down storage facility with the shady deal? And btw2, really, they only thought of protecting the fabric in a room full of holes and run down when it's actually raining?? They couldn't have covered the fabric when they saw the holes? The writing just doesn't add up. No one can be clever and this stupid at the same time... it's not that the drama is boring and repetitive, it's just that it's too obvious. They just want us to watch the characters suffer under the guise of growth/life lesson slice of life. Sure, many other dramas with the same theme are the opposite. Gaps in the story that miraculously make the characters succeed, but I can more easily accept to be made a fool of and have positive-feelings entertainment, than be made a fool of just to see characters suffer for the sake of it...
Some comments and reviews here are too harsh. This drama deserves better ratings. Is it the best, deepest, most insightful drama you will ever watch? No. Are there some cringey and cliche moments? yes. But they don't spoil the drama. It's funny, sweet, good acting by the leads, round characters and engaging storyline considering it's a rom com not to be taken too seriously. If you're looking for a sweet entertainment to relax and unwind, give it a try. I laughed out loud at times. I would say it's an 8.2 drama.
