I started a chinese drama today Mr Honesty. The ML, FL and her boyfriend are in the lift. Boyfriend is on the phone and talks in a different language so that FL doesn't realize he is cheating on the FL. the ML knows the language and on the spot calls it out.
Next scene the FL is blaming the ML for telling her the truth. I would have thanked him a 1000 times for saving me. So yes you are right, many dramas portray FLs as someone desperate for men or totally stupid. Where are the normal ones?

Maybe this is why famous leads are taken in the first place. Many of us would drop such stories in an instant but if it's good actors or our favourites then we keep on watching hoping it will get better or because we want to watch them.
It seems the writer wanted to write something from the perspective of a woman who comes between a couple and then try to romanticize it lmao

Finished seven episodes and the FL comes across as a mistress who gets angry whenever she sees the man with his wife/gf. The ML is clearly two timing, FL knows he already has a gf. I thought this will be romantic but it's pathetic so far.

This reminds me of the story The Necklace. The woman and her husband would have been spared a life of misery had she told her friend the truth. She would have found out that the necklace was fake.
The writer must have started with the thought of giving a message that we shouldn't assume things on our own, then maybe was told that their audience wouldn't like a fat girl so the story went another route.
Please spoil it for me, what was her reaction? Trust me there are many FLs who I want to hit and don't be sorry, even my replies are quite long 😂

Maybe this is why the drama didn't have any adults and had like minded girls making decisions, wrong decisions. I don't think any good parent will let their child change themselves to satisfy someone else!

the ML keeps sniffing her like a dog, touches her but she doesn't mind, someone should tell her that being a secretary does not mean that the boss can cross the line. She was once again made to wear something she wasn't comfortable in and she kept pulling up the dress in case her cleavage showed or in case the dress fell off. But the man likes to see it so who cares.
If we are told that she is desperate for the job then is she ready to do anything for it? Would the ML have dared to be so rude towards others if he was poor? But I feel such dramas are aimed at young girls who don't think much as long as the men in the drama drop their shirt every now and then.

The moment the FL appeared with curly hair and glasses I knew both will soon be gone. These dramas live in those old times when only guys were allowed to wear specs and good girls always have straight hair.
And makeover for the FL also means making her wear clothes that show her thighs even if she is uncomfortable. Because this is what male bosses like. Who said that being a modern working woman means you have to expose your body? I never saw male employees being ordered to wear shorts at work or else they won't be hired.

I remember watching a long jump event as a kid, wanted to copy it but had enough sense to try it on my bed instead of a rough ground. We never know what or who can influence a child.
Did she realize her mistake and stop the nonsense? She was lucky to find such an amazing guy otherwise he would keep putting pressure on her and in the later years she would go for plastic surgeries and what on to keep competing with young girls fearing he might leave her.
I keep thinking, specially after this pandemic, that life is so short why not eat and live as we want to instead of blindly following fashion trends or doing something that we don't like but we think others do.

This is why writers have a big responsibility, they can't escape by saying it's just fiction. In today's times we can't expect parents to be able to constantly monitor what kids are watching, it's easier to get influenced and take the wrong message.
It was so easy to start off by showing she makes the mistake of thinking he'll be impressed only if she is thin, then either a friend or guardian shows her the right path.
Yes, if she had maintained her true self and the ML would love her for who she is, it would even give a message to boys to not focus on a girl's weight. I'll be honest, if I had watched this when I was young even I might have learnt that it's better to be skinny!

I think it's easier for writers from such dramas to get away with it because they don't face viewers directly so there's no accountability. If they had something like comic con where fans can ask questions, how would they defend such stories?

They should have put an elder in her life who would teach her instead of teaching female viewers that girls should be only bones to get attention from boys. When you are surrounded by only friends it's easier to get a wrong advice.

I think the writer thought their audience wants to see slim girls. Such dramas send a wrong message to young girls. The ML was a green flag whereas the FL needs a therapist.

I had read about Lee Dong Guk's 8 year old twin girls youtube video, one of the girls was complaining that she had gained weight and didn't look pretty anymore, the child kept putting on makeup and saying she was ugly because of her weight.

Thank you for understanding. I was watching a jdrama where the FL is in trouble and as a viewer I should have felt bad for her but because of her acting I couldn't take her seriously and rolled my eyes as I moved to the next episode.
It's the same in cdramas where FLs are voiced by a child and they even act as one. I haven't watched many dramas, maybe with time I'll get used to it just like you 😊
