Yes Netflix has lots of non Korean stinkers. Atlas comes to mind.
I like the K-Dramas because they do some things so we'll. Their fantasy and action dramas are generally pretty decent and I can watch ;) the well done fluff like Healer.

I think I've rated about 3 dramas a 10, maybe 4. Although I'm probably too kind on my low ratings, as I do appreciate the amount of work that goes into some of the K-Dramas.
I have not seen DP, do not like zombies or serial killers, so could not watch Kingdom, although I did enjoy All of Us are Dead and Sweet Home Season 1. I did not watch the rest of of Sweet Home based on the spoilers.
I could not finish Vincenzo, way too much Corn. My Demon was OK Fluff, despite the silly premise. I think I only watched it for Kim Yoo Jung. Just like Hotel Del Luna was a visual feast, but IU was so much better in My Mister.
I enjoyed Alchemy of Souls part 1 for Jung So Min, Part 2, not so much. I seem to be provinng your point here; I guess I'm not immune to the star bias either. Although for the most part, I don't tend to notice who the leads are.

Yes, the reviews are very heavily biased by the fan armies, in the case of the K-Dramas especially, and to a lesser extent for other dramas. I see so many people who rate everything a 10 because their star is in the drama. I also see some Anti-Fan action for some stars, like HSH.
I thought Goodbye Earth had real potential, and the FLs were excellent, but I may be biased towards AEJ, Mi-Joo. But the directing/editing, writing and finale just killed this Drama.
Black Knight had KWB, so it had a plethora of Tens, despite being a stinker. I admit I may be somewhat biased against this genre based on my age.
I think I'll stay away from NF originals for a while and slink over to Viki.
Currently watching A Good Day to be a Dog, as a friend said my Dark Soul needed some Fluff. I may have taken her too literally. LOL. Cute so far, we even had a bedroom scene in episode four. It's a little like watching paint dry though and we haven't got into the Sageuk yet.
Fortunately, I watched the horrible dubbing in the trailer and my Spidey sense said Yeah, Hell NO! I'm not seeing much I like this year. Waiting for EAW 2 and TD 3.
Understandable opinion. This is based on assumptions but I feel like the problem might be lying in Netflix itself.…
I have to wonder about the Netflix influence too, the K-Dramas lately seem to have a different flavour. The last few NF dramas I've watched, Korean, European and US have been just bad. I think part of this is American cultural influence, some of it is that they can crank out crap for fewer $$$ and still get good #s and reviews. It also seems to be what the audience wants, based on the numbers.
you should post it as your own review not comment,
I've been filtering by ratings and sorting by popularity. But I've seen most of that list.
I don't really have a type, other than I try to avoid dark/serial killer movies, zombies and Corn, but I did enjoy all of us are dead, Sweet Home ( season 1), Uncanny Counter and SWDBS minus the gangster Corn
I have a soft spot for girl revenge dramas, so I've seen My Name a 'few' times. It's short and I like the OST.
My favourites have been Goblin, Healer, EAW, Mother and My Mister. I also liked Angry Mom, which isn't in the same league as the others, but it was funny and touching. There lots of others in the 8 range I enjoyed too.
The editing/directing in the first two episodes was awful. I almost dropped this before it got somewhat better.
The relationship between the FLs was the best part of this show, it's the only reason I kept watching. The ML and the Priest were rather weak, the ML did not seem to know his partner at all, he just came across as a P....
I was a little disturbed by the sexual content, especially Ha Yul. I really didn't get Ha Yul's motivation for her actions; if your father was a dirtbag, why would you want to follow in his footsteps. My negative life experiences usually caused me to move in the opposite direction. I get that this was not meant to be a happy film, but did we need the gory details. I know it wasn't explicit, but still gruesome. As someone else said, why did the adults not do more, but everyone seemed to be corrupt or useless, JIU, deputy chief, Fr. Baek, Do Jung A, Yun-Sang, Sung-Jae, et al.
Ahn Eun-Jin, Kim Yoon-Hye and the Deputy Mayor were the only reasons I kept watching this.
As the post above said what was with the non-ending after 12 hours of suffering. It looks like Se-Kyung was finally going to take care of those gangsters at the brothel and Yun- Sang was going firebomb the gangsters at the ship to get the kids out, but we'll never know. Why wasn't In-A in this merry band of rebels? I know she gave up and left earlier.
I see a few 7.5 and 8 reviews saying how bad this is, so why would you rate it an 8? That's why the reviews here and elsewhere are useless. I admit it difficult to separate my feelings for a story I don't like from a good performance, but I do my best. This story had potential, but even AEJ couldn't save this drama. If only someone had taken the director's Ritalin away, the writing was a little better and not everyone was a douche, this could have been better.
it's been so long since I watched this. In the beginning the ML is a bit of a Putz, he's only trying to get rid of SMA, like when he leaves her on the boat.
that was a rough situation to be in. anger tends to make people not think things through rationally. in this case…
Yeah, her world turned to shit in a heartbeat. Although the character was not known for making the best decisions. The FL's acting was good, but the production was a bit weak. The story could have been woven together a little better, but the ending was really weak. We really don't know why she got the result she did. Did the BF go to the police and tell his story, what happened to the assemblyman?
I think I can answer one question there's only one girl from the bullies who ends up supporting her and that girl…
Thanks for the detailed reply. I knew she dropped out before competing to help her father. I liked the scene in the ring, at least it was a little more realistic than one guy whooping 50 guys. I still like Taxi Driver though. 😁
I thought this Drama was doomed from the start with the weak plot device of the letters. I can see this being plausible at the start, but what 30 yo women doesn't choose based on what's in front of her rather than some 15 yo letters. I really wasn't fond of any of the characters, other than Dal Mi, Do San and Granny of course. Then the leads turn out to have MAJOR inferiority complexes, based on weak ass story lines. Yes, they finally develop by episode 15 or so. Most K-Dramas give us 14 episodes of angst, followed by a couple of episodes of couplehood. We didn't even get that, just an open ending, with pictures to fill in the blanks. I found it a little hard to take that they spent 16 episodes hating each other, only to be walking side by side at the end.
My friend said this would have been better as a business drama, without the romance. There was romance, I must have blinked. I didn't even like the business drama, as it was not realistic. Then we didn't get to see them win the competition; I know we saw the pictures at the end. Why would Do San have given up Billions of Won in investments, to go work for In-Jae? I know he sucked as a business man, so hire a CEO.
I thought the fighting was a bit unrealistic, she's supposed to be a Black Belt in multiple martial arts and was almost an Olympic boxer, yet she has a tough time defeating this guy. Yet she uses that Crane move to end two fights instantly. Also everyone else stood around while she was fighting one on one with the bully. I realize it was done for dramatic effect, but I would have liked to see more ass whooping based on her MMA type skills.
What's with the female bullies, some of them seemed worse than the male, yet they got off Scott free; some of them also seemed to support her in the end. I know the ending seemed to indicate there was a female ass whooping ahead.
Also if she's so famous, wouldn't someone have recognized her? Kids don't use Naver in South Korea.
This is my one of my favourite genres, but I was just hoping for more. Love SHS.
I haven't finished this yet, but the whole premise of Death being pissed because Choi Yi-Jae used death to end his pain seemed weak. Isn't that what Suicide is? As the reviewer stated above, pretty much every suicide would meet the criteria for her game.
This is written for the shock value and I was hoping to see better use of Park So Dam, they probably shot her scenes in a day. /e She did a good job of playing the B, but I was/am hoping for more.
It's obvious the game is rigged from the beginning, even though Death says she's not intervening. Although I've only watched four episodes, so I'm sure there's the big plot twist yet to come.
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the cast, especially in episode four. I'm not so bothered about the dialogue, as it is based on a Webtoon.
I just watched the Tale of Nokdu, which I thought was painfully slow, had practically zero Romance and WAY TOO MUCH Palace intrigue. They couldn't even resist dragging out the last episode with a CORNY wedding and the fifth round back stabbing.
I did enjoy most of the cast, especially the FL (although she looks like a teen) and Xena Warrior princess. Kim Ssook.
this drama's first episode has every other show's first episode dead in a ditch tbh
I think the first episode of Goblin was better, having just re-watched it recently and the OST in Goblin was better. But I thoroughly enjoyed this, having put it off for a while, as it had an actual well crafted story and there was minimal corn. It reminded me of Extraordinary Attorney Woo with it's episode structure and Goblin because of the heavy Destiny theme. If you're looking for FLUFF, this probably isn't for you.
This one of the better dramas I have watched. I don't see myself rewatching it for a while, as it's just too intense. Although I did rewatch the last couple of episodes a few times for the 'happiness'. I see people nitpicking about Soo-Jin's choices, but it's not entirely certain that the cops aren't useless. Besides all dramas use some plot device to turn two episodes into sixteen. I really enjoyed the family dynamic that grew as the series progressed. The message about what determines a family was quite poignant, a message that Soo-Jin learns herself through her love for Yoon-Bok. The acting by Lee Bo-Young, Heo Yool and the rest of the cast was superb.
There is no Romance, no Action, no Serial Killers, no breakups in the traditional sense, no relationship contracts, no Corn and definitely no fluff. Perhaps that's why it was so refreshing, if a little sad.
