The love of nine lives

Even cats seem to bring tears to my eyes. The inn keeper tried his best with son and daughter. He did not know how to handle their awakening of wanting to be more real and not being able to. I am glad WuNiang did not know how to react with the seal gone. BanXia knew how to signal XuanYe to let him know who was real. I can’t blame the demon for wanting to exist, but she turned down the peaceful way to live. She was never going to stop killing once she became bored with BanXia’s looks. Here again Song ZuEr does an excellent job playing both roles. The fight scene was well done and fun to watch. I was just yelling you need fire! when he called it up from the sword🤣 I was curious why the cat went to see the father when daughter snuck away with the hunter’s group. Here I thought the cat a she. But either way the story was touching and the love and loyalty of that cat far outweighed the feelings from the children he created. They outgrew him where the cat was forever loyal. I am curious about the strange man that gave him the skill to craft them. Was he good/evil/neither? Was he trying to help the man or sneak in demons with humans? How and why did he show up at such an away place with a promise of company for a lonely soul. It was sad to see the dad not think about including the cat with the puppets. Things might have ended much differently for all of them. The willing sacrifice of father and 9 lives was heartrending. These two souls should have been together as family. But here maybe occasional Fubai wine can let them visit. The meal at the noodle shop with leads was 🥰 Their mutual discomfort about the honey cakes, yet both trying them😂 his sweet gesture of carrying her home. There is so much happening between them. She does not realize that the one losing life is the giver of the seal when it is used. She did not equate the gray hair with her using it on WuNiang. But in her defense I can agree she didn’t just use without care. They really saved her from serious injury at just the right time. I got my wish from last episode to see his family bickering and having fun. XuanYe training with his father was such a bittersweet moment. I am glad he set out the memorial as heartbreaking as it is. He is still grieving but also moving forward. He saw too much of himself in Qiu and realized he also needs to recognize those that need him. When rabbit is getting the money I am not remembering who owned the envelope. Was he saving BanXia’s first hiring fee? Or does it have something to do with her father? XuanYe is still rough around the edges. I think both of them are remembering childhood and slowly becoming closer. This drama does an excellent job of pulling you into the story and the leads are believable as a pair. The production successfully makes the fantasy aspects come to life and the music and pace of story collectively work together to make this drama very enjoyable.

Puppet master

Song ZuEr did an excellent job being WuNiang and BanXia.👏🏻 I liked the cat’s cradle game controlling the mini puppet. It was fitting since a cat got them there. The actors did an incredible job with the eerie and just slightly off movements for dolls/puppets. The dad really loves her but recognizes how dangerous she is. He is heartbroken that she only sees his efforts as confining and hypocritical. The tenderness BanXia showed looking after XuanYe.🥰 His cute grumpiness at not wanting disturbed while trying to sleep. I wish we could have seen his family bickering and having fun. It was a change of pace for BanXia who is usually the only one that can see things. That gave her a bit of perspective from those that can’t see who you’re talking about. WuNiang has successfully rounded up everyone and she makes them share stories for her birthday. She points out the double standard of the constable and her father. I don’t think he realizes he carves the same doll for her. I wonder how his face would look seeing the drawerful she has of them. WuNiang was so confident of her success that she showed BanXia her secret of transferring herself from puppet to puppet. It had to be eerie to see your likeness and hear your voice with WuNiang’s crazed ideas coming out. BanXia’s wisdom in getting another mark on her hand really paid off. She has got a good strike in at her doppelgänger and heads out the door with the hunter’s sword. Cast and production rounding out this arc nicely.

Sun and Snow

This episode had me bawling my eyes out. The love between those two❤️💔The gentle soul he remained even after everything they put him through. Her strength and courage along with unshakeable love was his equal match. Together they would have been a formidable pair in all the right ways. The love of the carp demon equaled theirs . His beautiful sacrifice to show Mu Xiao Wu snow was a loving tribute to the human who showed him the sun. I was hoping Yan had a different use for the sword when she first drew it. Sundering herself from her family was the next best option. The fact that old man asked for and got mercy makes me grieved. He and eldest son should have gone to prison because they were equally guilty of killing him. I cannot say I shed a tear for the fate of Nangong brat. This was a time when justice was served with vengeance and in this case was well deserved. HongYe’s choice of words severed the tie he had with Huai Zhu. I can’t blame her for her sentiment but I hope he finds a way to dig himself out of the pit he made with his noble family assessment speak. It will be actions not words that rescues him. There is no way this episode should be a 7. Please rate this what it merits.

Betrayal

I despise the elders in Yang family. It wasn’t enough to malign and demean the groom at his own wedding. But the lengths they went to put him in prison knowing that he is to be a father and had a gift that would have improved their lineage is reprehensible. The betrayal and cowardice of those two men leaves me speechless. I hope Yang daughter and son remove themselves from the household permanently and have no contact with them. Right when I thought I could not be more disgusted over the treatment of the carp demon, they became even more loathsome with their treatment of Mu Xiao Wu. I also hope HongYe metes out justice that is closer to vengeance for that miscreant Nangong son and the torturer. I can’t be sad that the demon got help and hope, but that the timing allowed grief from another quarter is heartbreaking. This was a very powerful episode and it’s a shame these episodes are being deliberately low rated for reasons other than drama quality.😝🙄

Dolls and Fubai wine

It’s eerie that these dolls can be creepy and cool at the same time. I am guessing the innkeeper found a way to create a daughter to keep him company at the outpost and she further developed the skill but used it to get her own way. Today’s mini her was freaky and I am glad the cat was spared. This is the first time we see XuanYe vulnerable to self deception. He definitely understands the pitfall this is for Qiu and is actually successful at having him realize he needs to go home. I also think from time to time those two might get together with a jug of that wine and visit their ghosts to ease the pain of their loss. Misery does love company. The constable knows something is up but can’t prove it yet. When the daughter replaced the finger it was like ew and how’d she do that? They are a bit awkward but far more real than automotans. I am wondering if they will reveal how Pinocchio became a real boy. It is like Lego with flesh and blood. They can just add the missing piece and keep on going. Does the daughter intend to replace BanXia or just force herself as a companion? I am hoping the cat can communicate more directly because the daughter is running out of patience and the cat out of lives. The cast is doing an excellent job of making the drunken visions seem real, the daughter is like Wednesday dancing, and still figuring out the innkeeper part. Maybe he is just the gatekeeper trying to keep both sides safe. What would they see if all the calming balm was removed? Are the eyes taken from those attacked turn spy? Or just another example of the daughter’s craft multitasking? I am ready for them to finish up the cat/doll arc now. I hope the writer is too.

Extended stay

XuanYe runs into the innkeeper practicing with a weapon. He goes to talk to him and is immediately challenged. The fight looked very real and I wasn’t sure if he meant to harm XuanYe or not. They end up having a chat while XuanYe notes his armor and they talk about his time in the military. It is rather a sad story as they were on an outpost that was forgotten when a new empower took over. They were eventually rediscovered but it took 20 years for their post to get recognized. They have literal eyes watching everybody. I am not sure what connection there is between visitors and the dolls the daughter makes. She is very eerie and mentions a brother that ran away. Seems she wants to follow BanXia home. Cats have been seen but nobody has had a conversation with the 9 lives demon yet. BanXia runs into her cousin. Qiu was last seen in the woods with his demon wife. It isn’t clear how this was possible but this is what he thinks is happening. XuanYe has questioned the innkeeper if he has seen any demons and he acted odd. He did not freak out at the moon bug, so he passed the not demon test. Demon or not this entire place seems to be “other”. One of the constables got attacked by someone when they were heading back with the body. This whole arc is creepy and weird and interesting. It is funny that Rabbit thinks our couple was kissing🤣 in his defense it sure looked like it. I am surprised they are not putting forth more effort to find the cat they want to talk to and get away from the inn. It is not seeming a high enough priority. But maybe their senses are being numbed the longer they stay.

9 lives immortal

A very sweet, tho messy scene of BanXia dying XuanYe’s hair. He is truly a patient man.😂 Rumors are floating around that the drunkard was still alive and the constable went to investigate. BanXia and XuanYe are trying to find out what the white crow means. It is the companion of the mirror demon so when he passed she was cursed with it. The fake demon hunter had an unfortunate mishap so they have decided to stay with first choice demon hunter. Their friend showed up with a crow so everybody was nervous for him. They see him get flattened by a sign and right when they are done with funeral arrangements he shows up in the room and the body has disappeared. They are happy for their friend but it is weird what’s been happening. BanXia manages to chat with the cat and makes a request about her father. The cat runs off without giving her a response but at least the question has been asked. Maybe they will finally get some news. BanXia is starting to believe the hunter is her dream friend Manying. The maid is not sure whether to believe her or not but they can’t rule it out. XuanYe has been keeping an eye on a sword he is not enthused with using. It is almost making an appearance and he continues to monitor it.

Sides are chosen

I missed how Zhuo got tiger tally. His attempted coup failed but he still has Li as shield. Censor had to be a royal pain in the arse but he at least got to hear the truth about his mentor. He was so close to getting what he wanted but he could not accept another’s timetable. I am glad Pei has made a stand for backing Emperor. His fighting skills were awesome. That battle was nicely choreographed. Zhuo has no honor and seems to pride himself on that. The Emperor has the evidence she needs but it came at great cost. I liked the shooting star send off and the vow she made to Censor. Again another action packed episode. Now to find out to what extent Zhuo’s sneaky attack injured Pei.

Trying to move forward

BanXia is determined to get help to find her father. She is trying to make her case on finding the life giving demon and ends up with a broken jar of moon bugs. I think she might have made her case better if she would have offered an apology or recompense for breaking his medicine supplies, but she was too busy complaining about him having bugs. She has been seeing white crows and it seems to indicate death is coming for that individual. The drunkard is sentenced but right before execution he sees someone that looks like him telling him to leave. I am wondering if his rich family found a way to bribe the demon and if they could be link for her to find info about her father. Qiu arrives to try to force her to come home. I am glad she refused to leave. I am tired of her family railroading her and acting like it’s for her own good. By the end of his visit I believe he thinks she really can see things and agrees to let her stay. I don’t think he is ready to accept everything about his wife, but he is moving on. He shared a frank conversation and BanXia could at least tell him the last thing his wife said before passing. She finally listens to her maid and tries another demon hunter. This one seems to be a big fraud and he also has a crow on his shoulder that only she can see. XuanYe warns her he is a fraud and sends her home with a bunny.🤣 He is not refusing to help her but he is not lowering his price. For now they are both annoyed with each other.

Blessings and curses

The bride was beautiful. Everything was lovely and elegant. But looks can be deceiving. The Yang family was not kind to the groom. He acquiesced to all their conditions tho demeaning for him and they went out of their way to make him look bad and debased at every opportunity. Right when that seems to end the NanGong son shows up and he has found a way to put groom back in prison. They have used their demon controlling talisman to force the carp demon to kill a human and now causing trouble for Yang family. Hong Ye and Huai Zhu are going to try to find him. I got satisfaction of the sis and husband kicking him out literally. This has poked him into further aggression but hopefully condemns him as well. The only thing we do know is the demon managed to grab the talisman as evidence. He just needs to live long enough to clear his name and his friend. Hong Ye has shot himself in the foot not revealing himself earlier. It seems Huai Zhu would have a better idea of the truth of the matter but she is used to putting suitors off. Hopefully the one she rejected first does not team up with Nangong son. Their mutual hatred would be very focused on singular enemy. This drama is quite good. It is unfortunate that there are already efforts to rate these episodes quite low. Hopefully potential viewers will watch and see for themselves.

Justice is served

Huai Zhu and Hong Ye definitely make good partners in crime. She also knows how to get max return for her partnering. 😂 The sis and bro in law did wonders at the forge and I especially enjoyed the extra punishment to NanGong son. Little Nan was rescued and made sure would be looked after. The only concern is the evil behind hate tree return that was also released. The swords made fulfilled their tasks and then the cores were released. I think a baby spider is smiling at how his sword exacted justice. Part two of his promise was to free young man from prison. After getting run around from a corrupt prison warden, they gently suggested he should pay attention to the sword. Very shortly after prisoner released. All three leave and a happy reunion takes place. Hong Ye learns it is not quite antidote time yet. Now he must serve as a matchmaker. I am wondering if she wants to see him turn a pretty shade of blue? I can truthfully say I have been enjoying this drama.

Making a deal with the devil

All the actors did a brilliant job with the opening scene. It was heartfelt and moving. Punishment was accepted and hope given for the future. Eldest Dongfang sis gave Lady Poison extra reason to hope. When the masked swordsman receives his scabbard, he finds he has a date. 😁 The Poison King decides to give the human swordsman the chance to make everyone have a better future through peace. I now see why the demon lord had no regrets for his crimes. This demon core hunting family is reprehensible. And while they receive everything from the alliance in record time, their greed knows no bounds. They want to destroy the family that wants peace. The Dongfang family was having fun family time when a friend brings some troubling news. To save the lover of her friend, Huai Zhu is about to consider a deal with the one who could save his life. But—-is she aware the masked swordsman and the one he wants killed the same person?

Spiders are everywhere

The 100 eye demon lord is building a star tower for his love and the result is the local town is abandoned. The Dongfang sisters are collecting herbs and find themselves in a creepy inn infested with spider demons. A battle breaks out and the younger sister is kidnapped. A masked swordsman comes to the rescue and helps cut through the poison cloud covering everything. The sister is saved and they give a document to the demon that says they are authorized to rid the area of them. Lady poison rebuts with issues of her own. The masked swordsman tries to bargain for the lord’s demon core to make a truce for the young demons. Before receiving a response the Poison King interrupts and he isn’t around to negotiate. A much larger battle begins and the swordsman finds his weapon destroyed. He is helped out by brothers to create a new weapon and is left behind under the poison cloud while the brothers get the sisters out. The CGI is quite good and while a bit cartoony it’s fun to watch. The cast and production did an excellent job introducing the story and I really enjoyed it.

What is truth?

The Censor has another way to get a case before the Emperor. Zhuo has been compromising scholar tests and has infiltrated his choices in the court. Two brave scholars brought this plot to light and now it is being looked into. Here we find one in similar situation as emperor- a female in disguise wanting to be on the court and truly help the people. She is almost there but the corrupt officials are going all out to cover their tracks and destroy evidence. Her friend has already met justice for his backup plan. In this case, he made the right call to sneak her into the city, but the wrong call for himself. It is pretty clear he did not tell her his alternate plan. Pei and Ning know who they must hide for the real truth to come out and it is a race on which side will control that testimony. The punishment of that arrogant official doesn’t begin to cover it, but I think it will let the young Censor vent a bit. I am hoping this will result in the first woman being on the court. I am also wondering where Li is? This drama continues to do a wonderful job telling a lot of story in minimum time.
