First things first, I love this post and every word in it. You are right from top to bottom, bae. In times like…
Brought a smile to your face, right? I feel like you're me, but our wires got slightly crossed. Of course, Valentine's day is a big marketing con. I figured that out, like, when I was nine. Even then my simplistic view was: why does a saint need to be hijacked to show you 'love' someone? If you love someone, surely you'll be showing it everyday - or whenever you want - not following the baying sheep, and buying roses, just because someone marked it out on a calender, and "told" you to buy them. However, the way I view happy couples is different. If I see a happy couple in a picture, or two people holding hands looking happy, I think: "I hope they actually ARE happy." So many people are good at faking it, I no longer (or have ever) felt the pang of bitterness when I see such things, because growing up, all I saw was people faking it. My cousins getting beat by their violent husbands, but still their 'mask' didn't slip. Two people you think are ACTUALLY happy, but they split months later, at the first sign of hardship.
True love is all down to how YOU were brought up as a child. The experiences don't have to be positive - but as long as you value your morals, and vehemently disagree with cheating, and bailing out when the going gets tough - then you will never cheat on your partner. If you are like that as a woman, then there is DEFINITELY men who are like you, out there. Who hold the same values. You may never meet him - because he too might be jaded, or already snatched up - but cheating is done by BOTH sexes. Maybe it's more prevalent in men, because historically, they had all the power and women were meant to be cattle, and china cabinet trophies. No longer, my friend. Equality is biting us all in the butt.
Just whenever you see a happy couple? Do what I do. Look at them fondly, and say a little prayer inside, that they're both treating each other right. Because often what they might project is just a lie !
If anything k-dramas, make me embrace my singledom MORE, lol :) Some of the relationships portrayed are really unhealthy and/or boring so I never hanker after them.
I can't understand the hype, because I cannot get beyond the first episode. All this "fan-girl-behviour"…
Reply 1997 is a sleeper hit. Whilst it was airing, there was no hype around it all. You should've seen this page, it was like ghosttown, and save me and three others, nobody was talking about this drama - because I had little expectations, I was blown away to how faithful this drama was to that era. It got almost every detail right, to the phone booths to the ancient computers - although I could not relate to fan-service like that, it was still very faithful to that era - that's where the huge appeal came for me.
Obviously after that, everyone started saying how "amazing" this is, and maybe some people were attracted to this for the wrong reasons. This drama is gold for nostalgia and being youthful and terribly silly - it's slice-of-life and authentic as f**k. But I understand not everybody will like that, so it's best if you skip this series^^ Or maybe you will the sequels better - it's fine. Totally fine. Tastes differ!
I am so pleased to reach the 10th episode mark and still be interested in this drama. My cut off-point is usually 10 episodes. Lie to Me, Heartstrings, Secret Garden, She was Pretty, Mask...you name it, and I've probably dropped it. Why? Because I have a high boredom threshold when it comes to asian dramas. Seeing the same out regurgitated sh**, like the hapless love triangle, a drama starting out funny, then the fun being sucked out, nonsensical writing...to reach this stage of this drama, is actually quite rare for me - the last airing drama that I managed to finish is Healer, which ended in February 2015.
Goes to show how much I think this show is a winner :)
I can watch it on repeat all day XD
