I just finished rewatching this for the nth time and it still made me cry. So many small details I just realised…
Yes indeed! I once stopped the movie in the second life time to study the interior of the escape coach: so many items of every day needs, carefully reconstructing the historical life, arranged with so much insight, care, and love!

I see they are taking the hollywood route of almost thirty year olds in school.
As someone supervising students at a western sphere university I can assure you that the age range here includes a lot of young people who just have finished highschool, aged 18 to 20 in their first semester / quarters, but also a lot of 25 to 30 year olds, i.e. students who previously jobbed around to build up a tuition fund, and plenty of graduate students. Not to mention post docs who can be as old as 40 (like myself once for example).
YCY is currently 27. Looks young for her age (a bit too slim, but loosing weight was probably done to make her look even younger).
Just my humble opinion.

Title The Journey of Chong Zi Spoiler
So pouty and naive. Listens to everybody but the person she calls "Master" I can understand why nobody…
I like her. First life uneducated, naive, ‘pouty’, her father’s burden misunderstood; dubbed with high pitch voice. Second live more matured; still not properly treated by her master. Third life angry, justifiably so.
The whole story falls into the category of melodramas, where hardly anyone survives, and those who do, mostly are punished for eternity or in a sense, are no-longer strictly speaking human.

For Miss Yang Chaoyue, this was an earlier drama. She presents her character with skill, but she was not satisfied with herself. She was striving for a higher level of performance above the average acting seen in other productions, and a milestone to that end was ‘Born To Run’ earning her a top 10 best actor of the year and the lovely, humorous, yet not without fights and drama ‘Love You 7 Times’ with which she earned another award for her acting.
Last year she was main lead in the offline modern drama ‘Hello Madman’. This theatre production saw 22 performances in 8 cities with most times sold out venues of 1500 to 2000 seats. The drama was voted best of the year in the ‘modern’ category. Her acting was described best by someone with: ‘that trembling little girl on stage is most proficient!’

kind of a hot mess, really. Cant tell if it's because of the bad editing, storyline, actors - maybe all of the…
Interesting. The FL in this low-budget production, with many actors recruited from the Chinese talent show ‘Produce 101’, is usually characterized in DOTP as one example of an intelligent non-pushover type. Furthermore, watching a series to the end is a good sign of its general appeal; appreciated.
Coming out during COVID with some rumors stating Cultural Ministry issues concerning time travel at the production time, the edit may have left the series truncated. At least it feels that way. Without proper introduction, the series jumps into the fantasy realm indeed a bit sudden. We could think of the ‘new’ Feng Wu as a modern time incarnation of the killed one explaining the similarities. This connects with Buddhism believes and in that context appears more ‘believable’. What happens to the modern time girl while in the kingdom is up to speculation. Similar to where she returns to at the end: how long she might have been absent, who is missing her there. What happens to her friends in the kingdom? When watching the series carefully, there are many instances where Feng Wu indicates she may soon have to return to modern times. Thus, the ending is not that out of story sudden and unexpected, its just not well rounded off and Westerners have a tough time to
wrap their minds around it. Now to the criticism that matters most IMHO. The ‘brown face’ issue is deeply rooted in Chinese prejudice towards rural populations and should not have been characterized as ‘ugly face’ but as ‘worker’s face’ at best.
There is also the ‘fat person’ stigma, also part of Chinese problems with appearance.

Now to ‘ranting’ about a series. I see that a couple of times when people care about the content but are dissatisfied with the rendering. Compared to the intolerable - over the top novel it is based on, the presentation feels more realistic - though it still all happens in a fairytale land with a fairytale costume setting.
Even if your ‘rant’ sounds a bit harsh, and despite most points are being valid, except FL seen as stupid and chatty, with which I disagree, I feel, as mentioned, a form of inclination to the story.
In any way, thanks for having taken the time to ‘rant’. Criticism is one form of saying that there is enough good stuff in there to justify the effort to ‘rant’.
Have a good day.

Making your emotions pushed to the limits, feeling relieved when the clouds clear, the tears of pain being replaced by those of joy, when emotions of the characters are felt strongly, anger, love, then crying when seeing the character you like getting hurt, being amazed by the settings, the beauty and skill of the actors making you forget where you and who they are outside of the story: all that constitutes the art of the screen and of a good work.

If you appreciate Miss Yang Chaoyue in LY7T, then perhaps consider helping to boost her popularity.
I’m happy to report that buying 100 flowers each week (the maximum allowed per account) for miss Yang Chaoyue for the last 4 months brought her flower ranking to less than 200 places from the top (it was 285). For a better popularity rank or even keep it, the weekly flower contributions need to increase though.
Flowers are not that expensive: a batch of 100 flowers is 600 ‘coins’; 1800 ‘coins’ are $6; alternatively, write reviews to get coins to spend on your most loved artists.

I wish they would have followed the novel's storyline. They completely ruined the essence...
Those reading a novel first often don’t like its movie implementation and similarly, when reading a novel after seeing the acting, differences do not necessary please.
I got myself to treat a movie as an independent entity, where I feel happy over similarities to a novel, be open to a related, but alternative interpretation of events and characters, and most importantly accept that most of once perception while reading is based on imagination. Not two people share the same imagination or have the same picture of the actors in their minds.
Another very detailed comment on this subject opinionated that the novel, strictly implemented, would not necessary result in a good series, and that the deviations from the original novel were helpful in telling the same story in a different medium.
Just my humble thoughts on this.

least favorite actress.
After receiving unmitigated praise for her work in the family drama ‘Born to run’, so much so that even the worst haters had to stay silent not to embarrass themself.

By now she was honored with 12 awards, 8 for acting.

She also recently performed in a theatre production. Live performances require the highest skills IMHO.

The 5th Poly Theater Line (2024) Annual Audience Favorite Play (offline) voted by the public TOP1 play "HelloMadman Chaoyue Youth Edition" Douban rating 9.7!

22 performances, touring 8 cities in China which started July 2024 and ended in late Winter 2025.

I don’t understand why she is not in th discussion of her other 95 flowers. Her acting has improved extremely…
I think (just assuming) that some people look down on her for no reason just because of her achieving no higher degree than graduating from middle school. She is also a natural if it comes to acting, so, I believe, fans of other actresses try to sabotage her reputation.
For me, her level of real live education and intellect is manifest in how she talks, acts, puts in knowledge in shows, and what business plan she adheres to. Is she one of those potential nobel prize candidates that were initially hold back, working in the fields until luck opened a pathway to higher grounds and success, but requiring also hard, actually extremely hard work to rise up to being recognized?
I have a daughter exactly in her age, also an artist (classical music). While my daughter is doing well, she had a guided path through school, parents supporting her all the way, but does not have reached to the level of YCY. Still I’m very proud of her. Both ladies put an enormous effort into their art, and that is what I appreciate and honor with highest regard.
