I do perfectly see your point. And agree, But my two guesses are this. 1. They wanted us to have a kiss before the new year, which meant putting everything leading up to it in the next episode and only showing the kiss (poor planning?) and 2. I'd say it's just an innocent first kiss between two people who haven't dated before (assumption)
