Exactly. They thought, they were brothers by blood, but that they were not is already revealed in chapter 2 or 3 so that's no spoiler. That's why you won't find a "incest" tag on nu as well. However, I would recommend you to read it with a "incest" tag in your mind, bc even if they are not blood related, you can see how Zong ZiHeng feels for Xiao Jiu even after all what happens as his "real" little brother, while Xiao Jiu/Zong ZiXiao already develops romantic feelings before even knowing, that they are not blood related, tho he is very young when it gets obvious that his feelings toward his elder brother are not quite right ... So, for me, the only romantic love story is in the present time, with their reincarnations Xie Bian (ZZH) and Fan Wushe (ZZX). I have to say, I really loved the relationship between Xiao Jiu and Zong ZiHeng - it was so so precious, really and I loved reading about their past. I would even ship them if Zong ZiXiao wouldn't have had done what he did, although his mind was mended by the Tianji Tally, wich was mentioned in the prologue and kinda reminds me of the Yin Hufu of WWX.

In 2ha I just felt bad ... but it wasn't as bad as in WCJ bc the prior relationship and the feelings of Mo Ran and Chu Wanning for each other were different ... Even before knowing the whole truth, I could handle it, bc Mo Rans thoughts and feelings were very twisted between "hate" and longing for his Shizuns closeness ... at the same time Chu Wanning had deep feelings for Mo Ran all along and even tho he suffered he had this affection and he wasn't dead inside from what Mo Ran did to him - it was "just" really sad and painful. But, and that's no spoiler, Zong ZiHeng's soul died with what Zong ZiXiao did to him and you can see and feel his light dying for good with the way it is written ... it's not simply painful, it's suffocating ... at least that's how I feel about. I haven't cried much but I realise that I need more breaks from WCJ even tho I still think it's really good and recommend it to everyone who wants to read angst ... just with warnings ...

But ... he wasn't bad from the beginning ... no one in this novel was bad from the beginning, and that is why I simply can't just hate someone from the MXTX universe ... even the bad guys have so many shades of grey, just tend to go darker and darker, until they don't really care anymore if they become evil ... Thinking about it rather makes me feel sad instead of angry .....

Honestly, the rape scenes in WCJ made me so uncomfortable bc there is no romanticising about it and it's so different from 2ha, since one of the two parties still thought of the other as his lil brother ... it's so depressing ...

Yes! The Cat&Bones series (or Night Huntress series) by JF is still one of my fav vampire series of all time, with Cat being a kick ass dhampir and Bones ... the first crush of my life lmao
Throne of Glass has become a classic in YA Fantasy. There are some interesting side CP's and while it seems, that the romance part starts very soon, actually the real love interest shows up in book three, so don't get fooled lol
Daughter of Smoke&Bone by Laini Taylor you just have to read! It's a great trilogy and very unique. It has a infinite-love trope, and you can slightly compare it to MDZS and TGCF (SLIGHTLY, it's nothing like it at all! But the love is strong, you have betrayal, misunderstandings and a unique concept of "angels" and "demons") READ IT! lol It's really one of the few most original western books I've ever read and I would read it even after falling down the danmei hole. Although sometimes I think that it is kinda underrated - it has a very high rating everywhere, but people don't talk about these books so much, I don't know even why.

Lol, no with TGCF it was the opposite for me, bc I wanted to finish it so I could continue watching the donghua. And with 2ha I rushed through the end, bc I needed the he, I just needed the pain to stop hahaha But when I was reading more western books, I did something similar ... when I loved a books series so much, that I didn't want it to end, I just refused to read the last book lol ... Like for example, I still haven't read the 7th book of the Cat&Bones series by Jeanine Frost or I linger at book 6 of the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. Then there are series it's the complete opposite, like the Daughter of Smoke & Bone (which is so so good)
