This is just my take, I think the high schooler has a gift and can see the ghosts (strangers ), that lady with a suitcase is most likely a ghost, a vengeful one at that.The reason I allude she is a ghost is when she was at the bus stop only the guy seems to have seen her the other passengers didn't pay attention ,and like the shop owner said ignore them ,
also it was rather ominous how she didn't get in the house until he invited her.
