I happen to be in Korea right now, so no access to my usual USA Netflix w/subs. Whether the break-up was the fault of one or both, I don't like the way he suddenly arrived on her doorstep w/no advance notice. I don't like the way he manipulated a potential contract with Seung-hyo's firm. I don't like the way he wants to drag her away to the USA and away from her family. Hopefully he is gone soon.

Absolutely agree. I've read a handful of articles on Naver this past week and in interview after interview, cast members would talk about it being a "neighborhood" love story - not just romantical love, but neighbors loving/supporting each other. Older adult love story (Seung's parents") as well as the youngsters.
Usually Romcoms have a kiss scene by the end of 8th episode, but not here.But are we complaining? nope
The ep. 8 episode kiss is frequently "accidental" or fake. Then the REAL first kiss is Ep. 11. Maybe it will happen in Ep. 10, but I've been betting on Ep. 11 ever since. . . . oh, about Ep. 2.😁 (but I WAS hoping for a fake kiss in Ep. 8😢).
I just realized many viewers are hanged up on the main leads so much that they don't appreciate other elements…
I've always had a soft spot for Seung's father and mother - reading about their history/back-story and then watching the results of "failure to communicate" is very sad. I hope they have happy ending - together with all of the other love-next-door/neighborhood couples.

Bottom line - she needed him in that moment, he didn't respond to her phone call and he was in a very close physical situation with a co-worker. But then, I've never liked him. I didn't dislike Seung-hyo's ex, but Han Joon (?) is just too controlling for my taste.

Meanwhile, the pomegranate disappears pending the biopsy results, and Seunghyo urgently goes looking for the pomegranate.
So.. . . . . that last one changes things from what it looked like to me. - the documents Seung-hyo read apparently involved a biopsy test (dated June 24, 2024), so perhaps the English subs will clarify that.
Episode 9 was extra long. 1 hour 25 minutes I think. Watched live in Korea. Don't know how to describe it but Beok-ryu treats Seung-hyo cruelly (from my viewpoint) and she could die at this point and I wouldn't care. But. . .pretty sure she won't. 😊
This is based on no subs, so just guessing at what she said but she was cavalier and acted like Seung-hyo was nothing more than a casual friend.
There were scenes from when Beok-ryu and Ha-joon broke up and he acted like a jerk. Might be wrong but it seems that she overherd Chris telling co-workers explicitly about the stomach cancer and she didn't realize that other people in the company knew. Could be wrong.
Ep. 9 was 80% sad scenes and I'm glad I couldn't understand every word. Ep. 10 preview looks slighty positive.

"No friends" EXCEPT a very controlling ex boyfriend/fiancé? He was the only one? It doesn't make sense that the woman who was happy in college with many friends (happy photos at graduation) wouldn't make ANY friends later except. . . . a boyfriend. They never did any group activities or dates?
I don't like Hyun Joon. Why did he visit Korea two years ago? The way he manipulated his entry to Atelier with the excuse of building a home for his parents? Promising "one last meal" and then immediately breaking the promise by planning more meals? stalking her after she tells him to stay away? Pulling out all stops to get her back to the USA? WHY? Why was he attracted to a very lonely woman? Classic control freak. Admittedly, that's how I hope it plays out because - as I repeat myself - I don't like the character.
He was apparently supportive during her medical issues, but wasn't there when she needed him - he was cheating on her. I really hope Beok-ryu gives him hell when she kicks him to the curb.

Hubby and I are on our way to Korea today!! Can't wait to report back, if I am able, on what South Koreans think about Love Next Door - the characters, the cliches, the romance. Unfortunately, I cannot watch Netflix (eng sub) while there - but actually looking forward to watching with no subs.

Love your idea. I'm still surprised that the drama was still filming while it began to air - tvN/Netflix really wanted this NOW (so many other dramas filmed and then sit on the shelf for months).

At the playground, she finally tells him about the disease and probably explains that her ex helped her get through it. She barges into his bedroom and he's upset because she never confided him in about the disease. ("How could you not tell me that? This is how little I meant to you?). Of course, of the last two scenes, one never knows if they are in the correct order, lol.
I don't think she will accept the proposal, but perhaps that's my wishful thinking.
