I honestly think there is more to be revealed. At the 1/2 way point, we are about to discover Seok-ryu's feelings - past and present.
What happened after - as teenagers - they accidentally fell on the bed and looked deep into each other's eyes? A moment that Seok-ryu remembered when she discovered that Seung-hyo had moved back home and his room was right across from her?
If we don't see the next few moments of THAT moment - I'll be pissed.
Plus, there were all sorts of other hints in Ep. 2-4 - she was very upset when he told her she was "gender neutral". lol.
Well, she looks fine and healthy in the episode 9 preview, so I'm not worried.I think she ate food that was risky…
We have 8 more episodes to go and I'm sure she's not going anywhere. Whereas, her ex is a mere "special appearance" and he will likely be gone by Ep. 10.
However. . . .God Almighty. . .if they shove any sort of "he cheated/I left/he proposed/let's forgive and forget and fly off to America/oh, never mind I'll stay " s**t, I'll lower my rating by several β's simply because that would be the laziest, most unimaginative plot twist imaginable. but. . .I think we're good. She'll tell ex bye-bye and the end of Ep. 10 will be. . . . memorable. I hope. Crossing fingers. π
whatβs the use of being a happy ending ??? when in reality sb with stomach cancer will defenitly die very soon…
It all depends upon whether or not the cancer has spread outside the stomach. By removing a significant part of her stomach (presumably the parts that were cancerous and lymph nodes/glands nearby) they were successful. Plus she had radiation and chemo (if I recall correctly) afterwards. If there is no evidence of cancer of 5 years, she is considered "cured". Based on what I read.
I hate to say this but I have to. Seok Ryu doesn't care for Seung Hyo as much as Seung Hyo does her. I still can't…
I feel VERY cheated by the preview where the viewer heard the words "I liked you first" - and then it was a big fat nothing-burger apparently.πππππππ
I'm wondering if she was delaying giving SH an answer because she knows she relapsed and her cancer is back? Maybe…
I read up on stomach cancer. I don't believe she has relapsed (that would be a Very. Bad. Thing - in fact, basically very poor outcome). I think she had an "episode" because she ate that popcorn - the popcorn that her ex tried to talk her out of. The popcorn that Seung-hyo would NEVER have bought for her if she had told him - her "best" friend - of her illness and the things she must avoid. The things she HAS avoided since her return - alcohol, spicy food, coffee, etc.
Stomach cancer is "treatable" and in "full" remission after 5 years. She has 2 years to go if I understand the timeline correctly.
Signed up for "Love Next Door", not "Trauma Next Door".This plot twist is way out of line! super mega ultra pissed…
Yep. I'm disappointed. I thought the writer-nim would do a better of job of inter-weaving the romance/family/comedy stories but episode 8 didn't deliver for me. But, nothing could keep me from watching because I really like ALL THE Characters - just not writing right now.
8 episodes of literally nothing happening between the main couple, watching the 2 families having their issues…
Since seok-ryu returned, she has sworn off alcohol - always asked for juice. In fact, I'm not sure if she has even touched coffee or caffeinated tea. She has also avoided spicy food apparently (the tteokbokki was too spicy for her tastebuds).
It was the popcorn that caused this problem. And if she had told Seung-hyo up front about this, he would never have purchased it for her.
I love the parent storylines. Their histories have only been touched on, but the tvN site has lengthy descriptions of their past - growing up poor (or not), their hopes and dreams, and regrets. I think Korean viewers understand this vicariously - they don't need to read the character descriptions to understand their life - they are all 60ish and I'm pretty sure that at least one of them is going to be in medical peril at some point.
I've mentioned this before, but hubby and I will be in Korea next week and I'm hoping to have the chance to meet with a Korean or two (that speaks English!) that can give their perspective on this particular drama since it's airing right now. Do their fellow Koreans complain loudly about the parent screen time - or do they see it as a holistic family life drama with romance and comedy thrown in?
Re: Seung-hyo's father history from tvN:"So when Hye-sook was sent to Africa, he reacted violently. When asked…
The tvN site has character descriptions for all of the main characters. It's very helpful to understand the history/background of the characters - especially the parents - how they grew up, choices they made and regret, etc. There's much more about SH's father - I just provided the part about "divorce". The translations is always a bit of a problem because Korean's do not use pronouns.
My computer automatically translates the tvN page - but perhaps it's because I visit it so often.
Perhaps I should cut and paste and post it in the "forum" so that it's always available for those who are interested. So many commenters here seem to be upset with the time spent with the parents - as if SH and SR simply arrived at age 33 w/no emotional baggage from their childhood. π€£π€£
When he "climbed" the mountain for the flower π
I think the small wind-chime or decorative piece was a "lily of the valley" that SR's father located. I don't know if SH's father was too drunk to remember that he brought it home or not, but eventually the dots will be connected.
This went from 0 to 100 real quick. If her ex know about the disease and still wants to get back, I think he is…
My impression is that they dated a long time and he was very supportive. I guess the question might be when did they get engaged? I thought it was rather recent which is why the wedding date was a month away when she found him cheating on her.
I saw on internet that the scene in Seunghyo's room (ep 9 preview) after he knew about her illness at first I…
Oh. . . .awful, if true. I fully expect Seok-ryu's ex to be gone by the end of Episode 10,. But if we are served up a scene as stupid, unimaginative, banal like Seung-hyo racing to the airport and the plane leaves and she suddenly appears because she changed her mind. . . .
Awful, awful - there's no magic or charm in a scene that has played out in Hollywood (and kdrama) from time immemorial. I will down-grade my β rating if this happens because it is the laziest of all tropes.
On the other hand, if she's there just to see him off back to the USA?. . . . . .
I think the scene in the bedroom is after the playground scene?
I may be wrong but the text msg which CSH's mother read while eating I think it was about a divorce ? Like his…
Re: Seung-hyo's father history from tvN:
"So when Hye-sook was sent to Africa, he reacted violently. When asked if it made sense to leave her children and husband and go abroad to a dangerous place, she asked if people were so selfish, and pushed Hye-sook to the edge of a cliff. In fact, I couldn't tell her that I was worried about you, that I wanted Hye-sook and Seunghyo to be by [his] side, and that I was afraid of being left alone again. He couldn't be honest with the excuse that he didn't want to show his weakness. The marital relationship that began to fall apart has continued to this day. But the reason why he didn't get a divorce might be because of the regret that lingered in the back of his mind."
After this desperate speculation from my part , the ring scene doesnβt seem like a flashback . Reason: here…
I think the brief scene of her hugging someone is a flashback to their original engagement. There's a ring on her finger and her hair style is different.
But you're right - this proposal is new. Good thing her ex is only a "special appearance". π
Pre-release for Episode 8. Mostly Seung-hyo questioning everything he said. "Sayiing I'm going crazy because of you. . . . I AM going crazy." "It wasn't a burden. Ahh. . it was a burden. " "I AM going crazy". . . .etc. etc.
Meanwhile, Seok-ryu is simply cutting away at nothing with her sharp knife. Another sleepless night for both, lol.

When he visited two years ago, was it as her American boyfriend or as her fiancΓ©e?

she was there for four (4) episodes (5-8).
I'm guessing same for Seok-ryu's ex - he arrived in episode 7, so he will leave in episode 10.ππ₯°

I've been afraid for one of the parents. - all four ae aged 60ish.
