I just started this, embracing myself for a lot of cringy cuteness but to my surprise, it didn't annoy me at all. YSX is quite natural. I can enjoy this!! If you go in knowing that's how YSX talks and acts, then it should be no problem. If you expect she will talk with a normal voice, then you will be disappointed, because this is the normal YSX, she talks like that irl too. Unless when the director is GJM then he can get a different voice and vibe from her, which is amazing too.

But on your last remark, about her low self esteem, however I don't think JXN has low self esteem, she was an Empress, how can she have low self esteem? She was the most confident woman and she knows what she wants. She wanted ZZ because she couldn't have him in the original timeline. I feel that she is afraid on the unknown. She is afraid ZZ will met the same demise, she is afraid of XW, she is afraid of herself. Personally I feel her entire character arc is about she overcoming her fear and brace the unknown future.
On another perspective, maybe you were right too about her low self esteem. Usually people with low self esteem will bully others and try to gain power to boost their esteem.

I get what you mean, because SMZ growth is quite stagnant. I am more interested with Cui19 and Zheng5. 😭 C19 is a very complex and interesting character.
The bromance here is towards friendship, don't expect anything more than that in C-drama, unless you can imagine…
If you've watched and liked the director GJM's style then you will more or less will like this one. It's beautiful and artistic. Story is not hard to follow. But it is too slow and repetitive at some point. But overall I enjoy this more than Pearl Girl. I mean, everyone is SOOOO beautiful here, how can we not enjoy all the eye candies. And the fight choreography is top-notch.
