Ok, Pang Zi is as awesome as always and Xie Yu Chen also. I do understand the criticism for Wu Xie. For me though, it's less the actor and more the fact that for the first time in all the adaptations he excludes his friends and even hurts their feelings by refusing their help. It's kinda out of character...I am curious how it continues though, since I am only at episode 1.

It wasn't that it bothered me that she was girly. It bothered me that they continued saying she wasn't even though she clearly was. The characters kept saying she was not like a typical girl and how she was different while she still had a pink room, pink stuff, wore girly clothes and so on...this contradiction is what bothers me...
Maybe I will give it another chance somewhen in the future but atm I just don't like it at all...

Honestly I heard so many good things about this drama...I am disappointed. At first they establish the female character as boyish and not overly female and in the end she still accepts the pink room and slippers plus is the only one needing makeup for the live stream?
And the guys aren't any better; playing it as if "gender does not matter" but in the end totally assuming what she is going to be like as a girl. And her ex is just presumptuous and doesn't even listen.
My favorite character ended up being K, because he was the only one really not caring about her gender and only about her skill and attitude. And sorry, K, but you alone won't make me continue watching this. I understand why some people like it but I am just not on board with this design of character traits and storylines :( I liked the acting though...so I guess there is that.

Great article! I really like that you provided so many examples and background information ^.^ In the beginning I didn't like the voice dubbing either...now, to be honest, I am so used to it, I just enjoy the dramas even more :)

Really nice article and original topic (in regards to drama watching)! I do want to add, there is the factor of "conscious watching".
As example, I deal with gender stereotypes and their effects a lot in my work and when I watch something, I immediately start analyzing everything. At the same time, while I am aware of all the stereotypes portrayed in the drama or movie I am watching, I still enjoy it. So, imo, as long as you conscious about why you are watching something, what is actually portrayed, what effect it might have and whether it is realistic or not, it is totally okay to watch whatever you feel like. The problem is when you watch something without thinking about it. If we talk about the problems in dramas and portrayals, we can even use them to learn. But maybe that is just my perspective :)

I totally get you! Especially after Flower of Evil it was hard for me to watch anything else too ^.^ I do recommend Taxi Driver though, since it is kind of different from other revenge driven dramas. For when you come back to the dark side with us ;)
