Yup, because in original UK series the character wakes up in 1973, the year when this song came out.
The original UK version has a lot of Bowie songs in the soundtrack. It has a sequel series called Ashes to Ashes ( again a Bowie song and taking place in the 80s) and the writers are working now on a final sequel to both series.
