Let’s not forget he wanted to ruin her reputation and called her an adulterer, but he committed adultery first because he was involved with the princess while he was still married to the female lead. If he truly loved the female lead, I’m sure he could’ve communicated what was happening and how awful the princess was or even that he wasn’t comfortable around her or whatever the situation and they could’ve come up ways together to leave or get out of the situation. Instead all he cared about was the fastest path to get to the highest level without caring what would happen to his wife? Instead, once the princess propose that they ruin her reputation and get rid of her He never even blinked and just went along with it. I don’t think he feels guilty although we’re kind of led to believe that he is or does feel that way I think that he’s only paranoid of what could happen to him if he gets caught.

It’s based on a novel and apparently there’s even less romance in the novel and you actually don’t see him too much in the first half because it’s very female centric. so they already gave us a treat by having way more interactions between them and the series and flirting with all wordplay and doublespeak

He’s not on the female lead side as there’s an upcoming episode where he talks to Duke Su about sacrificing her for the greater good and marrying her off to her ex-husband who tried to kill her lol. Now I’m a bit suspicious, last episode the Emperor made a comment to our male lead about her using an opportunity if it was available to get closer to SYR, which made me think that he knew that she was really XFF? If that’s the case though, and he knows her story why would he want to sacrifice her to marry her to her ex-husband who tried to kill her at the instigation of the elder princess that’s just cruel.

Why would you think the Duke did it? At the point of episode one she didn’t even know the Duke yet

And it has figured it out because in the other episode after court he directly reminded her by saying remember you will always be a daughter of the Juang Family. Why would he say that unless he knew that she wasn't and needed the reminder?

I like That they've made him more of a complex character but I also think he's disgusting so.... don't think he feels guilty I think that he's paranoid over the thought of all his hard work coming crashing down because she could potentially be his wife

Also felt like it was a bit of a mistake with XFF admittubg to her that the real JL was dead because even though she's crazy we know there are certain people that would believe her and this could create problems in the future so I feel like the female lead should have just killed her anyway LOL

Yeah it's called paranoia and the fear that if his wife is really back eventually all the crimes he committed against her are going to come out LOL
