The Elder Princess never actually said she wanted her dead initially she told him that she just wanted him to divorce XFF. He would then be free could Marry The Princess and then remarry her and the princess could Lord it over her That's The Legal Wife

The one he didn't expose her during the trial because to him she is dead he even went back and checked the body. Also it's a form of self-preservation because if he'd admitted that she was his wife he would have had to have answered some very difficult questions and possibly admit to his crimes

What I Understand he couldn't divorce his wife though because that would ruin his own reputation and tarnish it since he didn't have a justification for doing it

He did have a choice he cared more about how fast he could rise to a better position than he did about his own wife. He is such a hypocrite he should be the last person to talk about being righteous

Novel but comments I've read about it from those who have is that XFF and JL right died at the same time I believe. JL self exited when she found out her fiance had called off their engagement to switch it to her sister and of course we know that XFF was murdered. As far as I know from those who've read the novel there was none of this confusion over her identity because she literally looked like JL.

Even so she went against her family ultimately her father still supported the relationship by giving her her mother's pendant to give to her
