Awakened Vow on IQIYI- can't find an MDl page for it yet Dir: Ming HuiSeng ML: Wang Xinzheng FL: Zhong Xiaoqi
Contract marriage to man in coma who she rapes at the request of his mother. He awakens and is an abusive, controlling p.o.s, starving her for 3 days because she touched a photo. He rapes her and forces her in other heinous ways. I kept watching because the acting was decent and I was thinking this would be a rise from the ashes or arc of redemption kinda deal any minute now. But it never improved, just pulling a HE out of its arse. Feels like a trope cocktail lite. Even if someone was into watching a rapey couple kinda torture each other, it doesn't fully commit to the red flagness either or have her be properly miserable so I guess everyone will be disappointed.
Title:"37.2 Degrees Hot Bite Marks" | 37度2炙热咬痕 ML: Zhang Ji Jun | 张集骏 FL: Sun Qian Xun | 孙芊浔
Her ONS is her deskmate who was convinced by the temp rise on his fitbit to wait for her for 10yrs then demand she take responsibility and marry him. His make up was fab. Since her eejit father wants her to marry a cheating scumbag she agrees. Random serious shit goes down but they are cute and amusing together.
I was catfished by the insomnia cure trope- big disappointment. Frustrating throughout; both misunderstandings and FL character & decisions. Only the ML grows at all, FL tongue tied and spirals all by herself.
《夫人她略懂些拳脚》The Lady Has Some Knowledge of Martial Arts | ML: Wen ZhiCheng FL: Zhai XinRan
Quietly badass FL uses arranged marriage to amusingly hammy, wriggly playboy as cover for investigating foster father's murder: in-laws adore her and the antagonists are brushed off like flies. Fun!!!
I watched this materialistic show of one upmanship to the end just because Merxat was kinda sparkly and the main couple were a pretty good comedic duo- but it was a chore to continue to suspend my disbelief that no-one even thinks to look stuff up on their phones, not even before engaging in easily backfire-able attempts at public humiliation.
If there had been more romance then maybe the materialism would have landed better for me but her 5 minutes of unconvinced agreement to a r/s didn't make her wide eyed adoration at him after his identity was confirmed look any better than the behaviour of her other family hypocrites . I guess the comedy was - parents got all their wildest dreams come true in impossible ways and still could barely stop abusing the kids? This is how far you'd have to go to silence the criticisms and those people would still punish you anyway?
There were colourist remarks made to denigrate people - it's one thing coming out of the mouth of a villain as further proof of their villainy but to come out of the mouth of a lead and be shown to successfully score points in this day and age is disgusting . I hate most when this stuff tries to slide in under the radar of "just a comedy".
I also found it quite misogynistic - sure one could argue that the reason most of the show is women attacking women over their r/s to men is because this is a send-up of the kinds of undercurrents and pressures young people face from their elders at family gatherings hence the plausible premise of the contract.
But do male elders never exert these pressures or make comments about aging women losing value as incubators and eyecandy for men? Not even one toxic uncle amidst all the toxic aunties cos they only matched up with absent saints??
The men don't commit the emotional violence, only saving the situation through their status & wealth or calm sharing of knowledge. The one man who isn't doing this well enough (actually he tries but his offer lacks credibility)- well it's the women who attack or get slapped around for his faults. He only gets punished, and not by the ones most wronged nor in kind, when he makes another man angry. In the case of a marriage arrangement: the man arranging it is either neutral or a hero and the woman arranging it is a controlling antagonist. It got really old.
Title: "After Swapping Bride with His Sister, the Khampa Man Actually Loves Her" | 和妹妹换亲后,康巴汉子真香了
ML: Wang Zi Lin | 王子林 FL: Yang Yu Meng | 杨雨萌 The sisters reborn swap their fates trope but set in the grasslands with a To The Wonder vibe. One ML overacts as bratty 5yo, other ML just wanders around slightly delulu, so setting was more charming than romances. I hope there is s2 where we meet 3rd brother.
Not sure if this has already been linked, didn't seem to see it. FL transmigrates and has a mission to make the mad tyrant hate her and her betrothed want to marry her. But she mistakes one for the other. Warning- far too much chokehold.
Just watched it and wholeheartedly agree!!! Can you (or anyone reading this) recommend which of his others to…
The audio was increasingly out of synch on every link I found (but could be temporarily reset with some clicking) making it a bit hard to tell but I don't think he brought as much of that charisma although definite moments of potential. Cold faced CEO is not it. Morally grey, green tea or mafia could be better. Or Jiang Song needs to steal the bride in s2
Comments on YT weren't favourable but I actually really enjoyed this for some pretty chill vibes- plus Jiang Song was ossom. Yes, much of it doesn't make sense (she can't both have transmigrated a week ago and been harbouring x years long feelings). The ending is also a bit abrupt; trailing some loose ends and fridge logic and lacking even a kiss or a comeuppance yet weirdly giving cartoon freeze frame poses. But for once the antagonists don't feel like they dominate even though there are so many of them, and the ML isn't the rescuer but he is the flirty cooking support with quietly affectionate integrity. FL was a low key organisational genius, covering her arse just in case but mostly content to let her revenge be living well plus natural consequences and not wasting her attention, time... or gifts .

FL in a time loop trying to catch her cheating boyfriend. Cheeky guy helps her every time. Stinky River Snail are heavily promoted. The smiles are the best.
