My Oct Recommendation movie
Watch this because of recommendation challenge from 𝑲𝑪𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒂𝑳𝑶𝑽𝑬𝑹
The story follows Xiao Lun, a young man who tragically dies after being struck by lightning. Arriving in the Underworld with no memory of his past life, he faces a choice for his reincarnation: become a lowly lifeform like a snail or other animal, or perform good deeds to accumulate karmic virtue and reincarnate as a human again. Xiao Lun chooses to earn his karma by taking on the role of a Yue Lao—a traditional god of marriage and love. Paired with a hot-tempered girl named Pinky, the duo is tasked with tying invisible red threads to connect human soulmates on Earth.
While performing his duties in the living world, Xiao Lun unexpectedly encounters Xiao-Mi, the love of his life whom he has loved since childhood. The encounter causes his suppressed memories to rush back, bringing deep heartache as he realizes he can no longer be with her. Xiao Lun and Pinky try to set Xiao-Mi up with other men to help her find new happiness. However, Xiao-Mi’s lingering grief and deep devotion to Xiao Lun prevent any red thread from successfully binding her to someone else, baffling the deities.
Complications arise when a vengeful spirit escapes the Underworld, seeking revenge for a betrayal in a past life. Returning to the living world, the spirit is intent on hunting down the modern reincarnations of his former betrayers to exact bloody revenge. Possessing terrifying dark magic and the ability to manipulate malevolent insects into swarms of dark energy, he unleashes chaos across the human realm as he tracks down each soul one by one.
So, how does everything come to an end? What is the connection between the vengeful spirit, Xiao-Mi, and Xiao Lun? Will Xiao Lun successfully bind a red thread to Xiao-Mi, or will she remain without one forever?
That's pretty much the story without giving anymore spoilers.
I only understood half of the story... and fortunately, that was the part about Xiao-Mi, Xiao Lun, and Pinky. The rest completely baffled me. WHY, oh WHY, did they need to add the vengeful spirit subplot?! If they had just left it out, this would have been a beautiful story about love and learning to let go.
If it weren't for the challenge, I would have dropped this within the first 10 minutes. And without the storyline of Xiao-Mi, Xiao Lun, and Pinky, my score for this would be even lower.
Overall I finished this just for the sake of the challenge…
