“I’m Enjoying It, But the Female Lead Is Driving Me Crazy ?”
Okay, so I won’t give any spoilers. I’m only on episode 10, but I already have an opinion — and honestly, I don’t think it’s going to change whether I’m at the beginning or the end.Let’s start with the show itself: it’s pretty awesome so far. Someone compared it to The Story of Kunning Palace, saying it’s just as good since both were directed by the same person. Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s good — strong female and male leads, a great storyline, and that classic enemies-to-lovers dynamic. But it’s definitely not on the same level as The Story of Kunning Palace.
That said, every episode so far has been captivating. The acting, settings, costumes — the whole nine yards — are all excellent.
Now for the con, and this applies (in my opinion) to most C-dramas with a female general or strong female lead. Why, oh why, do they always make the women have less class than the men? They’re supposed to be powerful, not crude. There’s no need for them to chew with their mouths open or sit with their legs wide apart — it completely kills the elegance.
This female lead, honestly, is even more annoying to me than the one from Legend of the Female General. Her arrogance is off the charts. And let’s be real — he hasn’t actually hurt her since the beginning, and she’s already gotten her revenge. So why does she still need to hold a knife to his throat every five seconds? One minute she’s caring, the next she’s threatening to kill him for no reason. Bipolar much? I just hope she stops being so over-the-top and starts acting with some grace.
Everything else about the drama is great, though! Hopefully, some directors take note — you can write strong female leads without making them more barbaric than the men. At least she’s not immature, so that’s something.
*Update finally finished it. It was as I expected. I also hated the princess. (The sister to the ML) She acted like a victim the entire time. Only thing she suffered was from a broken heart from been too stubborn and arrogant. She brought it upon herself. He told her he was never going to love her. Ugh!! Stupid.

One word, immature
I’m only halfway through Unchained Love, and honestly, I’m hoping it gets better because right now I’m pushing through simply because I have nothing else lined up to watch. I usually enjoy Dylan Wang’s dramas—he’s the best part of this one and he really carries every scene he’s in—but the writing for the other characters, especially the female characters, is rough. The biggest issue for me is how unrealistically dumb they’re written. It’s that same old trope where the female lead constantly gets herself into trouble through her own arrogance, impulsiveness, or flat-out lack of awareness, and then the male lead has to swoop in and save her. I get that dramas aren’t supposed to be hyper-realistic, but her level of arrogance and recklessness is so over the top it pulls me out of the story. And her maid? Don’t even get me started—her character isn’t the funny, lovable kind of clueless; she’s the frustrating, eye-rolling kind.
I only gave this drama a chance because so many reviews hyped it up, but honestly, those reviews were misleading. Some of the plot choices are just bizarre. No imperial consort would be allowed to casually live with some random man, “eunuch” or not, and the way she behaves—as if she actually has choices or authority in front of the emperor—is just unrealistic to the point of irritating.
At this point, I’ll probably finish it just to see how it wraps up, but so far it’s nowhere near as good as people made it sound.

A feel good show. Not a Romance
Blood of Youth isn’t a series that’s going to completely blow you away, but it’s a decent watch if you’re looking for something simple and steady. The story follows a group of martial artists finding their path, dealing with occasional conflicts along the way. I won’t go into spoilers, but the plot stays pretty straightforward. The acting was just okay. Most of the cast didn’t stand out much, with the exception of Liu Xueyi, who was the only actor I recognized. One thing I personally didn’t enjoy was Zhang Wei Na’s portrayal of the female sword deity—her character felt overly arrogant from beginning to end, which got irritating over time.
Overall, it’s an average drama. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing terrible—just a neutral, easy show to put on, especially if you’re coming off something emotionally heavy and need a breather.

The storyline
There are a lot of known actors I'll give it that. First impression is I don't know if i care for the story line. I'm at episode 15 so far and its kinda repetitive. Female in red dress won't go away and she's annoying. Everyone regardless of what Tang (ML) does the general population only believes the psychopaths when they said he's evil but yet he has not actually done anything evil. 🤔 Make it make sense. AND Tang tried to explained what happen to his master but again fueled by hatred and his own perception A'li won't listen. This show compared some of the other's that came out around the same time is a bit lacking. So far each episode just keeps being the same problem just different scenery. Not sure if I'm going to finish it. I will say however, people are hating on the FL. I don't see why. She's better than some I've seen. No complaints on acting for anyone they're all pretty awesome. I'll let you know if i finish the show but as of now I'm bored with it.Was this review helpful to you?
