Just finished ep8 and here are some of my honest thoughts!I really liked how “dark” and “quirky” the comedy…
The writer is know for his work as an entertainment value. Most of his past works veer on illogical but still all rating success except Blood. Gangster as a priest? Autistic individual as a Doctor? Gangster as a CEO? All lead to his past dramas, all entirely possible in real life but the possibility is minuscule. The fiery priest, Good Doctor, even Gods Quiz, all full of plot holes. You know how people watch (The Rock) Dwayne Johnson’s movies? You’re aware of plot holes, but will still watch it for entertainment. For an “intellectual” triller as you call it, I would recommend Tunnel, Signal, Stranger, although not a thriller, a dark comedy at its best is Prison Playbook!
this drama doesn't give me any emotion like suspense or thrill, literally I'm not even curious for the upcoming…
Obviously this drama does not fall in those genre, suspense or thriller. I think this drama is more like the Rock movies. Reminds me so much of Dwayne Johnson movies; big everything, kinda dumb but nonetheless super entertaining. I love the Rock! I don’t think it’s for everyone. I hope you find something you like, honestly it’s been months since I’ve watched any kdrama. I’m happy I found something since I’ve dropped many.
This adaptation so far is quite fateful to the novel, readers rejoice! I hope it remains consistent. I’m truly shocked it passed censorship. The main ship is so blatantly obvious! Watched until episode 8, and will rewatch later with English subtitles at youku official YouTube channel.
Why are you mad? This was not BL and those who thought it was played themselves
Lols I’m not mad though. I’m just expressing my thoughts like everyone else. I like the original novel and drama which it’s adapted from. From the start, I never expected this adaptation to stay somewhat true to its source because kdrama land rarely ever challenges the convention. You can read my reply about it above but as long as you enjoyed this drama everything else is irrelevant.
You are right, this genre is called gender bender. The fact that a man’s soul resides in a woman’s body technically doesn’t make this a BL. But the fact that it’s not even a BL and they went ahead with this kind of ending is an indication of the narrow mindedness that still ran prevalent today. The original novel and tv show never suffered from vagueness or try to reason it self out. Because from the start it’s a man’s soul in a woman’s body. Navigating his life as a woman, embracing his womanhood and falling in love with the king.
That’s why I did not watch this. Unfortunately, kdrama land doesn’t have the guts! I never believed from the beginning and I saved myself from all the frustration. Only few mainstream kdrama ever had a main BL love line and gave them pretty positive endings. Life is Beautiful which aired in 2010 is such a rarity, even after a decade it’s still the only one! My Queen is not even a true BL, they could have ended the OTP together which still follow convention as he is already in a woman’s body, but they can’t even handle that.
... and why does Tang San speak in a contemporary tone? Is this by design?
Hi, we cannot really call this a historical drama. It’s more accurate to call it “xuanhuan”. A fantasy drama. The setting is not even on earth but in a fictional planet called Douluo Planet. There are two continents in this planet, 1 is the Douluo continent. Different culture, type of humans, living creatures etc. So yes, all of those you mentioned can be depicted in this drama.
Despite its wacky plot and abysmal production, Go Princess Go was wildly entertaining and it become such an internet hit with 2.6 billion views in China and went to make tons of money after its low production cost. The original was so entertaining, I’m not sure how this Korean remake will be able to capture some of that. I have no expectations, I’ll give it a try.
She's super interesting and extremely beautiful, but in real life everything about her would be super creepy and…
In real life a lot of successful world and business leaders have psychopathic tendencies, these are based on real studies. Intelligent, charming, manipulative and lack of emphatically; they thrive in that environment.
Director's attempt to fill time with long multi-side shots can be ignored for a episode or 2 but if this cheap…
It’s okay not to like this drama, it’s not for every one. Most Korean dramas tend to follow some sort of a formula because it works for their audience same with Chinese, Japanese, Thai, US etc and it also makes them distinct from one another. Why would any foreign audience want to watch kdrama if I get the same feel from watching my local TV? Personally, I watch for enjoyment like most people. I just jump to the next if it doesn’t work out for me, I think I only finished 5 kdramas this 1/2 year. But the internet is an amazing thing, you can find dramas from all over the globe to keep you interested. I’ve particularly enjoyed some Chinese, French and Turkish production.
Well in her defense it was self-defense and it took her back to her trauma
It’s all part of the story. Maybe the the FL is a psychopath but not all psychopaths are killers. It’s really all worth exploring, I’d rather go there than have another Cinderella FL. Although I understand this kind of dark genre is not for everyone.

In the novel, yes Haitang is one of his women but they have a very complicated relationship. Fan xian is not above using his relationships to pursue his goals. He has several relationships outside of his marriage and 2 official wives. I doubt this will be adapted for TV.
hooked, line and sinker!!! Maybe coz I didn’t have any expectation, the 1st episode just blew my mind! I can relate to the subject matter because my older brother is schizophrenic and was resistant to meds. My mom was lost to gambling, so at 18 I had to deal police, doctors, nurses, psychiatric ward visits, working to pay for bills, for years. I don’t know how I was able to manage those. Mental illness is really tolling to the body and soul for the patient and caregivers. I left for UK at 24 to give my self a break and try to piece myself together. It made things better because they were forced to become independent, mom stopped gambling and my brother became more open at taking his medication, now he works as a nurse assistant.
All Reply series are standalone, you can watch whichever you want 1st. Occasionally a cameo happens but sometimes…
maybe this production really love this duo actors, they played parents to all the FL in the reply series. The dad (Sung dong-il) was even in Prison Playbook. The writer-director duo has made 5 successful dramas together, i guess they like repeats lolz
Ep 25 - I am more than half way through Joy of Life. I am going to say something unpopular and without a lot of…
The novel Fan Xian was not written as a "good guy" either, the author is fond of writing his characters as morally grey. Like real people who has good and bad side, be it the main lead or the "villains", they have real motives behind their actions; for power, loyalty, money or love. The fact that he's justifying his revenge for equality, isn't that very human? influenced by his real origin. Another example is that despite his "modern" sensibilities and respect for women, he still ended up having 4 wives. As for his fiance's family, they have been in the pool of power struggle even before Fan Xian arrived, and they know the risks. They have spilt tons of blood obtaining that power and maintaining that power. There is no classic "good vs evil" in this story. The villains are capable of doing good, Fan Xian and company are also cable of doing bad.
One of my favourite part of this drama is when they gossip or snoop!!! lolz be it between friends, coworkers or just random strangers; it's just too true to life! hahaha Love all the works from the creators, from the Reply series to Prison Playbook and now Hospital Playlist.
