You mentioned both Xiao Lusi and Xiao Zhan in your review. I happened to like both of them since the drama Oh! my Emperor. That drama is more of idol drama so it did not have much plot. But I love it because Xnine members were fun to watch and it was hilarious. My go to drama when I need something light to watch. This was the first drama I saw Zhao Lusi and she was outstanding in it, I became a fan. The first drama I watched Xiao Zhan in was The Untamed, later I watched his other dramas he was in. He is mesmerizing to watch Everytime he is on screen.

Since this review is for The Last Immortal that stars Wang Anyu, I actually love him in the modern dramas Falling into You and To Fly With You! I love both dramas.

I actually Like Fight Breaks Sphere (2018). The first 4 episodes were boring, but the rest was really good, I was impressed by Leo Wu's acting and that is when I became a fan. Jelly Lin, the FL in that drama was not as interesting/convincing though. The drama did introduce me to Lin Qin, she was enjoyable to watch. Some Xnine members including Xiao Zhan was there, Everytime they were on screen they were fun to watch!

Some actors/actress are suited to play certain roles, whether more modern or more historical dramas. Some better at comedy and some at dramatic scenes.
Xiao Zhan and Zhao Lusi are very versatile in acting actually. But
choosing the right script and cast/team chemistry is important. Some dramas
can be a hit or miss.

Zhao Lusi said she chose this drama because it is reverse role. Usually the FL in many Xianxias are portrayed naive or foolish. And the ML serious and responsible. But this drama The Last Immortal is the opposite in which the ML is portrayed foolish or naive instead of the FL. I just episode 27 now this is when she returns back to a Pheonix. We will see how it goes. Because Feng Yin is not A Yin, Feng Yin just has A Yin's memories. Especially that she is totally a different person due to reincarnating many times. So, she is more guarded after all she his been through. A Yin was hatch from the egg only had 10 years to live. Most of the time she was still young and naive as A Yin the water beast. But somehow more clearer minded than ML that refuses to grow up.
Feng Yin is more mature in personality, so ML better smarten up both in IQ and EQ to be in the same level she is. Otherwise it will be a mix match of a relationship.

I like Xiao Zhan but was also quite disappointed in The Longest Promise drama. As always Xiao Zhan was amazing in as well as most of the cast in the drama. I mostly continued the drama because the acting of the cast were great. What I did not like is the script
1. FL character is nconsistent
2. FL has more heart to heart conversation with AYuan than ML.
3. The romance between FL and ML was more one side, they rarely talk about how they feel, it was mostly in their thoughts only.
4. The actual romance did not start until
was after episode 35? After 75% the drama had completed.
5. The ML dies two times but near the end of the drama. It was so rushed.
6. FL lead lack character growth the entire 75% drama. She keep making reckless mistakes repeatedly that cost other people's lives. *Please stop excusing such behavior, because she is still a child/young. It is scary to see a teen (16-18yrs.) be apathic and not learn from mistakes, especially when their mistakes cost other people's lives. How come the side characters have better development than the FL?

In The Last Immortal drama, it is the opposite in that ML is the who is irresponsible that cost other people's lives, but A Yin gets blamed for it, because the Immortals say she is ML tribulation. And some are excusing his behavior because he is only a teen or kid. So where are his guardians and advisors if is the True God? But it seems most of the Immortals and gods in heaven are childish and narcissistic. He is surrounded by very toxic people. Gu Yin's true friends AYin, Hong Yi, Yan Shaung are smart and capable but he rarely trusts them. In The Longest Promise drama FL (Zhu Yan) constantly doubts ML (Shen Ying), while she trusts AYuan without a doubt. In The Last Immortal Gu Yin keeps doubting/distrust A Yin, while he gives powerful artifacts to Peacock Princess even though he knows she betrayed him more than once.
So in this case it is hard to convince the audience that there is love/romance between the ML and FL lead. There is a lack of trust and communication between them. Why would they rush the romance near the ends? When their should be eventual growth (even if it is slow) that shows their is love between ML and FL. This is mostly due to the script not the actors though. It is a common trope in C-Dramas. It is so frustrating to watch especially when it keeps getting repeated through out the drama. Including the "I am breaking up with you in order to protect you."
I do like TTEOTM though, amazing acting by BaiLu and Leo Lu! Their Chemistry was amazing to watch, they can do comedy and dramatic scenes well. But like many Xianxia it has a lot of angst. I will probably watch it again after a while, it was like roller coaster ride of emotions. So, I can only watch it when I am the mood to.
*Overall, for the dramas The Last Immortal and The Longest Promise. I would likely rate it between 7.5- 8.0. Both are not bad dramas, mostly the acting is good but because of the script and lack of character development it is not the best Xianxia dramas out there.
The Longest Promise is FL (Ren Min) first historical drama. The Last Immortal (Wang Anyu) first historical drama. Compare to Xiao Zhan and Zhao Lusi who have done many historical dramas already so, they are the one mostly doing the heavy work.
Lui Yuning is finally ML in the drama A Journey to Love. He was fantastic in it as Ning Yuanzhou. He mostly did a lot 2ML roles in the past because he wanted to learn how to do historical dramas well first before doing ML role. I guess it is best to do Romantic Comedy/ Idol historical drama first before doing Xianxia or Wuxia dramas first. The difference between modern and historical dramas is the CGI. In modern dramas one relies on other cast members/environment to do/emote a scene. When working with CGI, sometimes you have to act with a green screen and pretend something is there when it is not. So, it tricky to do emotional scenes when one is not experienced in it. Lui Yuning did great in that he practiced playing side characters first in historical dramas and not start out as ML for a first historical drama.

I think one of the reasons RRY fell in love with NYZ, (besides being intelligent and great at martial arts) is his empathy. NYZ learn fairly quickly to RRY just be herself and not force his ideas on her. They learn to trust and support/depend on each other, but still do individual their jobs. Even though RRY acted alone to investigate or take revenge, she learned to communicate with NYZ about it.

Episode 39. The moments between NYZ and RRY was really cute and romantic. I know Yu Shishan died but I think he died in an epic way saving the girl he loves. Yu Shishan love seeing beauties and drinking wine. But the fact he will no longer see any beauty since he got blinded from the blast, he was willing to risk his last moment of his life to protect NYZ even if dies. I think YSS look so dashing covering his eyes with a ribbon, picking up that spear so elegantly, and knocking some Beipan soldiers before he died because of another blast.

Episode 40. Li Tonguang making an unwise decision because he did not talk about his strategy with others that are involvedin the fighting the war. Deng Hei told him before he died to not act soft during war. In the beginning LTG was very cold but now that there are other lives that he cares about are dying, he had became soft and irrational. LTG was taught by Ren Ruyi and before she met NYZ, RRY will always do things on her own. So, it made sense that LTG does things/make decisions on his own. His biggest mistake is not acknowledging NYZ as his master way earlier. NYZ is a great strategist and is good at leading a group of people, not out of fear but out of respect. Yang Ying learned from both Ren Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou, so she acquired great knowledge from both that help developed her personality of balancing strength, wisdom, and compassion. LTG only learned from RRY and did not get a chance to learn from NYZ because he was too stubborn to accept him and face reality, since he used to getting what he wants.
Yang Ying grew up fast because she suffered a lot along the journey, she learned to recover from lost, learned to be brave, gain wisdom, and Yuan Lu also gave her great advice and motivation. LTG did not have much friends in comparison to YY, so rarely relied on anyone until near the end of the show. Most Emperor's are likely to be alone because it would be hard for them to trust anyone fully. Like Deng Hui said to LTG, it is not going to be easy to be Regent,there will be many you will be up against. With power there is great responsibility, that is something YY is all to familiar with.

It was cool and nice to hear LTG finally acknowledged NYZ has his master. It would have been better if LTG had accepted and learned better strategy from NYZ earlier though. They needed to save LTG even though he was ready to die because he is the regent of An and he was needed to keep the country stable. Sometimes you don't know what got until you lost it, that was the case for LTG and losing his master NYZ right after acknowledging him.

The scene was tragic when NYZ died but even at his weakest and hit by multiple spears, he was still able to knock out those Beipan soldiers. I think the most significant part of this scene is when the OST was playing in this scene. The lyrics that describes it all, a lifelong work to protect, it is all worth it, as long as all are safe and sound when the dust settles. It was very poignant scene when NYZ died.

When Ren Ruyi dies it kind of reminds
when Empress XiaoJie died in the fire. Empress Xiaojie decided to die because she no longer has anyone in her family she trusts/love (represents a sense of loss). Ren Ruyi decided to die because
the her founded family whom she trusts and love all have died (there is a sense of loss but in a different way). Empress Xiaojie died to cut herself from her family. Ren Ruyi died because she wants to be with her new found family in heaven. You could say Ren Ruyi died in an explosive way, in a way she vented her anger towards Beipan King and Prince. Since the beginning she always took revenge towards the people who harmed the people she cared about the most.
I can understand why many have said the ending was like a dream and that Chu Yue was probably near dying and it was like Ning Shishan was guiding her towards Luidao Hall team and Ren Ruyi in the after life. It can be interpreted by the viewers anyway they want. Chu Yue is a warrior princess and is likely to die first and be reunited with Yu Shishan. But LTG and YY have to stay alive for more years until the new Emperor of An is old enough to take over rule. So, I understand why it was Chu Yue at the end not Yang Ying or Li Tonguang since they have responsibilities they have to keep for Luidao Hall, NYZ and RRY's sacrifes to be worth it.

I glad Yang Ying took the mission even though it was dangerous because Ning Yuanzhou and Ren Ruyi thought her well. She has learn to strategize and became more courageous than any of the Wu Royals. I guess Yang Ying was never close to anyone in Wu, since she decided not to go back but stay in An state instead. NYZ was probably the closest relative she had acknowledged and trust.

For Episode 37 when LTG tried to force RRY to marry her, I guess he has not his lessoned that one cannot force someone you love, he has a one sided obsession that is selfish. Sometimes one cannot have both love and power.I like NYZ message to LTG that if he wants peace, he needs to put aside his selfish and put others/people before him. I think NYZ and YY probably snapped out of his obsession when he realized that even YY is willing sacrifice herself and to marry him without love just to save other people and Wu state. Because True Love requires some sacrifice in ones part. So he probably realizes YY has more courage than him, because NYZ called LTG a coward for choosing his selfish desires versus doing the right thing (putting others first). While there is YY who lost Yuan Lu but still is able to stay strong and make hard choices. LTG learned to respect and admire YY because with her decision to marry him, she is putting him first, in a way protecting him from those the doubt his rule a Regent in An court. Her love for her country and people of Wu came first. Princess Chen Yue wanted to marry for love and desired to be loved. Princess Yang Ying learned that sometimes there is more to life than marrying for love and having a good husband. Being able to choose your own destiny is more important.

Episode 38, someone said it did not make since for the 3rd Prince of Wu to suddenly have hidden agenda and became evil near the end. But because his treasonous behavior is trying to kill the Empress of Wu and Prince Dan Yang , he was killed because of it. The state of Wu did not money to fight in a war. Because the 3rd Prince of Wu was killed for treason, all his wealth and properties was seized, allowing his wealth to be converted to fund the war to fight Biepan. So 3rd Prince of Wi's death serves as a purpose. Someone did say he was suspicious in the beginning because sometimes it's the quiet and unsuspecting ones that are dangerous.

The 3rd Prince of Wu apparently had been planning to overthrow his brothers for a long time. So, the fake messages and misinformation that lead to Emperor Wu di's capture must be secretly conspired by 3rd Prince of Wu with Scarlet Guards/White Sparrow branch of Wu. In the beginning we suspected that the Empress of Wu, Prince Dan Yang, and Song Zhang to be the one in attacking YY and Luidao delegation in their trip to An to save Emperor Wu di, when it was actually the 3rd Prince of Wu.

Even though it sad ending because most of beloved Luidao Hall characters died in the battle of Beipan, it is still an epic story kind of like the movie Gladiator, in which the main character died in the end. But was reunited with his family in the afterlife who were killed in the beginning of the movie. LTG, Yang Ying, and Chen Yue did survive, the sacrifices of those that died allowed these three and many more people of both Wu and An to live in peace for a while.

Finally finished watching WRTW drama! So after Hei-Bai Fenxi (Langxi and Xiyun ) fought some battles with Huang Chao to protect their land/territory, they became rulers of their land (Yongzhou and Qingzhou), then after that they got married and ruled both their land together for 10+ years. There must been some time skip because young Han Pu'er (Fengxi's godson) had become an adult( late teens) fighting battles with her. So that means Huang Chao ruled Jizhou and Youzhou with his wife for 10 years+. Yu Wanyin (from the previous dynasty) wanted to take down Hei-Bai Fengxi to rule the world, I guess it took him years to raise his army. HC unknowingly has been used by YWY for his ultimate goal.
Besides ruling their land, Hei-Bai Fengxi also lead their army's to fight in war to protect people and prevent places/cities being destroyed. Bai Fengxi got injured and Hei Fengxi gave up some of his life to save BFX, so he only has 10 years to left to live. Now, I understand why both decided to give Huang Chao the burden to rule the world, Qiwu to command their army. With their limited time to live, they chose to retire and live out their lives, and give the responsibility to those they know who have
many years of experience ruling a land and commanding an army.

I watch Xiao Zhan's drama Sunshine By My Side up to 10 episodes so far. Xiao Zhan's character Sheng Yang is very suitable with the FL Jiang Bing, the same as his character Xiao Chunsheng with Tong Xiao Ming in The Youth Memories drama. Xiao Zhan is versatile and can do serious and comedy roles really well. Sunshine By My Side drama has an intelligent script and intelligent Female Lead. I like Xiao Zhan's dramas best with an intelligent FL because the banter comes more naturally, I like the subtleness, acting, chemistry when it is less exaggerated and that both leads in the dramas actually have good communication or have heart to heart conversations. The FL that Xiao Zhan stars in Oh! My Emperor (Zhao Lusi), his minor role Bingyuan with the girl in Joy of Life, The Youth Memories FL (Li Qin), and Sunshine With Me (Bai Bai He) he plays opposite a smart female. Xiao Zhan can play comedy but I also like it when he plays intelligent not arrogant characters.
I am not a fan of CDramas that has naive or childish female leads. If there is character development, the nativity/immature behavior should only be a few episodes not extend half way through the drama.
I don't like that FL in Sunshine By My Side keeps drinking alcohol/getting drunk, I am worried for her liver, but seems to be some kind of business practice when meeting clients/connections.
I like the FL Jian Bing insteraction and conversation with Sheng Yang, very intelligent but also realistic conversation. Jiayou Xiao Zhan let see how this drama goes, so far it been great, dealing with issues many can relate to.

I like all three actors Cheng Yi, Li Hong Yi, and Bai Jing Ting, especially with all three dramas; Cheng Yi (Mysterious Lotus Casebook, Li Hong Yi (The Blood of Youth, and Bai Jing Ting (New Life Begins).
Also I am a fan of Wang Yibo.

You can tell all four them apart, Cheng Yi and Li Hong Yi looks similar in certain angles or from a distance.

Maybe these four can play brothers in a drama! It can be a Wuxia drama with some mystery , light romance, and some comedy.
They can be 4 Princes in a Kingdom but somehow got separated when they were kids and some how miraculously found each other by chance and find clues to their past. One could be a Crown Prince, One a Pirate/Martial Artist, One a businessman, and one scholar.
In the end after they reunited, one will be Emperor, One A General, Investigative Department, and one can be an advisor/architect.
I don't why I am making this story up in my mind. But just a thought.

I watch the movie twice on Monterey Park AMC theaters! It was awesome and I love watching Wang Yibo dance in the big screen and also love E-Mark dance crew dancing as a team!!! Wish there was more of it, hoping they would make a second film with more
competition! I love how they portrayed the hard work and struggles that is involved in becoming a professional dancer.

For international audiences, the One and Only Priemere will be release in the US, Canada, and UK on August 11.
In the US I think these theatres will have it, but have to wait for more information later. Usually, most theatres in the US don't show any showtimes until a week or few days before it Priemeres. So waiting for more information.

Today July, 28, 2023 is the One and Only movie release in China. It won't be on streaming sites until later when it finishes it's run in the movie theatres.
