You're right, nowadays audience can't tolerate anything in custome dramas, they complain about everything as it it. Personally I blame it on modern periods, they shoehorn all new ideas and values in old stories that are supposed to have happened centuries ago and the result is we think ancient people thought and lived like us. Really a pity...

I know the main focus of the drama isn't romance and I like it actually but I find them lacking all the same.

About Ymei and General it was very hasty, maybe they wanted to do it on-screen or something but the result is the same. She had nearly 6 yrs to move on and more than one month to have developed an attachment to the General but we have her all happy and teary eyed at seeing Gu clutching his hands (were it a Western show they would've kissed then😆) then we have her falling for another man after like a week...

Like some people, I do think she had no choice but to go to him, her reputation was ruined and she couldn't go and invite all the women and have someone examine her to prove her chastity and on top of that she had treason rumours hanging on her and her dad's and in-laws' heads. She had to think rationally and her choice was General. They could make it like she did it out of necessity not love but well...

Ohh dear! So when they said we follow Heavenly king they meant God Almighty? I thought they meant old traditions of the Mings and Hans and found General's admonishing Ymei's prayer weird. Very interesting indeed. I should try and read something about it. It does sound incoherent, I guess different people with different motives were added to them and came together to overthrow the Manchus. More or less we had the same things in our history too.

The fiancé story is very meh. They're so conveniently taking her from the stage so our ML wouldn't do polygamy later when he reunites with FL. This Stockholm Syndrome has come in a very proper time. 🙄

I think between them there's siblings love, they've grown together, studied together and out of convenience and gratitude for Mr. Bai's kindness they were engaged so he could take care of his only child and him in his old age. They probably weren't thinking about romance and passion, that easy love was enough for them but now they've both found other people to love in a different way.

Ms. Su looks and sounds quite dangerous and unreliable, her subtle threats and manipulations are going to be a problem for our characters. More than that I wonder what she has one LWT.

I came to understand in such dramas the darker and more vehement the start and the hero(ine)'s vow for revenge are, they're going to be the bigger clowns and idiots.

Very poor one indeed. Aside from our heroine's luck and his own big mouth of gloating, another reason is that even though he's smart he's too hasty and doesn't think through, wants to do it and finish. Another thing is his complete lack of loyalty, everyone are means to an end for him, his aunt and her family, Lucia and Seri and the Mins. He cares for none of them so his plans are shrewd but since he's like that not one of his accomplices cares for him more than a dirty hand to do dirty works.

It's a lousy one. The foundation is too weak if you ask me, he would be better marrying off some prosecutor family than getting mixed with Cheobals.

He was college mate with Ji Seop and his wife is his first cousin, he probably thought this family is a piece of cake. 😆😁
