I think it's more due to the fact that she is used to handling her grievances alone. So she does not consider the fact that he will want to help her or worry about this.

So Ling Buyi will kill some people without authorization which will lead to him leaving the capital for 5 years. This breaks SS heart ofc. The empress want to see her married so SS eventually gives in and accepts YS as he has become a friend during these 5 years. Ling Buyi returns and we have some arguments, YS realize that SS will never love him the same way she loves LBY so he breaks off their engagement. SS will then get engaged to LBY again after some groveling has been done.

I have not read the novel but I have read some spoilers so I think this is more or less it.

This was said in a livestream so although the actors involved, father Cheng, Consort Fei, Emperor and Third Uncle, said they would be happy to work again it just that. No plans have been made so we can just hope they have a chance again in the future.
