I think that he is a quite common character type, and if he had been the sole male lead people would have been more open minded about him. But now he mostly comes off as an ass due to us knowing he is not the endgame. He really likes to make life difficult for SS atm so that is really annoying.

The Cheng family is not a noble family and does not have a position in court so yes it would not bring the Ling family any benefit. But since LBY hates his dad he does not care. I think the old man thag goes to SS house is Prince Ruyang who is the grandpa to the princess.

Yeah it is mostly LY who would suffer if ZJ does not start to treat him better. So SS is a kind girl to those she care about. I also did not find that scene that sad, especially since I know they will get together soon enough. LBY leaving her will be much more sad later.

It's not been announced. But basically the government wanted shorter dramas for some reason so that is why they want at most 40 episodes.
