I know what you mean. I did know about the ending before I finished (watched too much related to KaH and eventually stumbled upon spoilers). But nevertheless had the original ending a great impact on me when I saw it.

For me in the last scene Jiang Yue Lou only realized for real the death of Chen Yue Zhi when he touched his face as it already became cold. I saw that interview too but couldn't remember where.

Some reasons to ban things are understandable (if the reasons stated in the article are honest). Children should not be to much involved in this industry. To say that they should live a normal childhood doesn't sound that wrong. If drinking is banned I dare to doubt that. Arsenal Military Academy had a lot of drinking, also The Untamed and WoH. Jackie Chan played in a movie called Drunken Master but that was ages ago (seems like censorship is going easier on movies and maybe it was different back then).

They showed a picture of Dr. Who regarding time travel in the article but this is also a figure who constantly kind of reincarnates since first airing of the show in the 1960s. There was also a kind of immortal with (in China's eyes) censorworthy love interests. And they sometimes didn't take historical events that serious. I think Dr. Who would be an absolute no go in china XD.

I'm all in. They should reshoot. MZJ and YBC don't look that much older today so this would be an option. But I think MGTV already said that this ain't going to happen. As reincarnation is banned they can shoot something else with the same cast and just hint on the fact that they are reincarnated (like with the romantic relationship between two males).

I remember another older tv show wich in my opinion flew kind of under the radar (at least in my country). It's Farscape (Australian Sci-Fi). I think it ran from late '90s til early 2000s. The Aliens were puppets made by Jim Henson (Muppets) with much love for the detail and the models of the space ships were well made. It looked really really nice. Had also some good stories to tell but they messed up a little with the ending (a movie after the last episode; not only chinese tv productions are capable of messing up).

I wonder why though. It feels like in nearly every chinese drama or movie someone talks about meeting in the next life. Like Wang Meng said to Chen Yu Zhi that he wants to be friends with him in the next life. Do you know the reason?

Mmhh it's kind of embarassing that I forgot about the ending. I will rewatch the last ep. My brain has limited capacity for information. All the KaH stuff just overwrote the data I had stored of other chinese dramas XD

What you said about Star Wars is so true. I like ep. 4-6 (the oldest movies) a lot. It was such an epic story. For it's time the special effects are unmatched. Even 10 or more years later other productions didn't reach that level. Reminds me of Blade Runner (so old but good looking 'til today, OTP story (the book is exceptional)). Ep. 1 - 3 where like "Oh looks nice but where's the content. No rewatch value." and the following ones for me were just crap. Mandalorian the new tv show was really good though (baby Yoda <3).


I think the hint on the cheapy production highlights the strength of Guardian - the chemistry - even more. Not up to date CGI doesn't stop me from watching shows. If they have a heart and a soul then it doesn't matter how they look so much. Some of my favourite computer games are from the early 2000s til 2010 ... guess how they look but the stories and the game mechanics are so good that it doesn't really matter. Nowadays games are often just for show without well told stories or good relationships at all (like most movies today).

I think none of us feels offended. At least I don't. It's always nice to talk to you even discuss about things. Discussions give a very good opportunity to broaden one's own horizon. It's always welcome.

I think that KaH goes kind of far for a chinese drama. At least I was really surprised how much you get regarding the relationship of JYL and CYZ (I don't complain though).

I remember now that I also watched Advance Bravely ... but it was ... I don't want to insult anyone ... it was not that good. The acting was not professional and it was really cheap. And cringy storytelling. I think the ending was so bad that my only option was laughing for several minutes ... and asking myself who came up with these ideas and .... WHY???

Especially Chu Shu Zhi at the office ... one of these scenes where it really is dangerous to eat or drink. For me it is like the definition of hilarious XD XD XD.

Even if it's production was kinda cheap and the storytelling often a bit weak, I am very fond of Guardian. Has a bit KaH vibes. Was the only show I rewatched before KaH. The ending theme is also really nice. And it has one really hilarious episode where some characters change their personalities. It's not as good as KaH but it's worth watching. Zhu Yi Long and Bai Yu (main actors) had a profound chemistry.

Yes it was heavy I mean real heavy abuse (the kind one gets in prison for). Why they change the straight "couple" (they are not really a couple in the tv show, it's more that one is attracted to the other) into two girls I really have no idea. Can't find any reason.
