Lilly, I don't know if you are still looking for this drama but the whole set is available on maplestage. I only…
Many thanks!!! I managed to download all episodes from different sources, meanwhile, but it's great to have a link with the complete series, now!!! Super!!!
Watched this, because it promised to have the gorgeous Li Qin as the leading lady!
What a waste of time! I want the 100 minutes of time back, I wasted on this! Worse than the worst Shaw Borthers movie I ever watched, with one diffeence: The Shaw Brothers movies at least had entertaining martial arts scenes.
The acting went underground here as did the writing. First, I didn't want to believe it when I read that many watchers in movie theatres didn't even stay till the end, but after having watched it myself, I know now why they obviously left the theatre - gladly, I didn't pay for it, but watched it online.
But, of course, the amount of sold tickets is what makes this a blockbuster, and, of course, everyone ran to see her idol...clever tactic, but in the end a bad movie will remain a bad movie, no matter how many idols they will place in it...
If Li Qin will return for a second movie, she either needs money or doesn't care about what kind of roles she's accepting. To see an actress with such big potential in such a gruesome production is hard to bear and I really hope, she didn't sign for more...
Out of the big three components of storytelling - plot, character and setting - some people just want plot. You…
Totally agree! The really great series all come with a balance between plot, character development and realisation (settings, costumes etc.) and they give us great inside be it about history or character biographies without getting boring. Gladly, we don't have to swim with the tide and can enjoy the formidable stuff and leave the mass products to those they are meant for: tha masses...
As some people always complain about everything, they, of course, also complain about "The Longest Day in Chang'an" being too long using 48 episodes to tell the story. Therefore, I did a little calculation: The series runs over a total length of 32h 51min 58sec. If you assume that every end credit song runs about five minutes, you can subtract four hours, which leaves the series with 28h 51min 58. If you also subtract the time the (necessarily included) flashbacks need, you'll end up with more or less exactly 24 hours... And now tell me, where the series is too long...
I agree most dramas today are trash and get high ratings. But I also think this drama is only 9 or 9.5 at most.…
I get your point and as people are not all the same if it comes to their point of view, it's ok to share different opinions. I, for my part, am totally content. If a drama series is that well performed that I, who I'm not speaking Mandarin, are able to follow it RAW without any problems, it says it all. 48 episodes seem ok to me, neither too long, nor too short (especially if I see all those water injected anld blown up romance farces). I don't know what you're missing that you don't find it saucy enough. Personally, I found myself glued to the screen with my jaw dropped open, most of the time. The semi open end is pretty cool and leaves space for more and/or for letting one's imagination flow. But, of course, that's my impression about Zhang Xiao Jing's adventure...
From the cover story on the latest issue of Variety:'This summer’s breakout series is the Tang dynasty-set thriller…
Still one of the best "ambassadors" if it comes to the Silk Road is the legendary Chinese-Japanese co-production "The Silk Road" from the 1980s with its unforgettable soundtrack by Kitaro. I've never before and never after seen a similarly amazing documentary. The new docu about the Silk Road from 2007 (if remember the year right) is a poor joke compared with the old one.

Fingers crossed, we'll get more of this high quality series (or we'll get at least professional subs for series like "Shaolin Wendao", "The Stand-in" and other series we already discussed about earlier). I have some slight hope that German TV might try to get its share if it comes to "The Longest Day..." - if so, I hope, they won't wait ten years to do so...
Compared with all the trash that gets ratings up to 8 / 8,5 / 9 this would deserve a 20 to make the difference in quality, performance, production, soundtrack, setting, costumes etc. visible. If a drama gets a rating of 8 and higher just because the leading couple "has good chemistry" or because the "male lead is so hot" or because "there is romance in there", "The Longest Day..." would even more deserve a rating of 20 and higher, because, in my opinion, it needs more than romance to rate a series 8 and higher... Gladly, there are gems out there, like "The Longest Day..." which make me forget all the shallow and flat stroies just circling about immature females running after similarly immature toyboys... Gladly, there are directors out there, who still value other things as well if they take on a new drama series. Gladly, there are still directors out there, who prefer actors over idols, who prefer performance over scream-factor and who prefer talent over ratings!
Which actor would you say was a miscast? I'd say Larena Song, she needs more experience in smaller role before…
Despite being just 21, Lareina is in business for quite some time, having been a child actress first and now trying out playing with the grown ups. She already played the female lead in "Boyhood", Gossipp High" and "The Dark Lord". She totally ruined "The Dark Lord" for me (and not only for me) with her immature acting, so, either she didn't learn a thing when she was on set as a child or she really has no acting skills worth to mention. I don't have in mind to insult her, but I know other former child/teen actors, who became very good newbies in the meantime. Sadly, they don't stand a chance if it comes to leading roles, because of wannabe actors and actresses like Lareina and many others, who can rely on their idol status.

The difference between Shawn Dou and Lareina Song is, though: Shawn was in his late twenties, already, and he had worked together with director Zhang Yimou several times, already, before he'd film "T&E" (being his first or second TV series). Shawn has this natural feeling for how to take on a character and how to perform and I'm sure, he got shaped by working with a masterly director like Zhang Yimou. Shawn worked hard on improving his skills. Lareina Song, on the other side (same has her leading man in "EF") got chosen, because she's cute and sweet and beautiful (whoever claims that) and - main reason - because she's an idol since her days as a child actress. To compare these two is a bit like comparing apples and pears. I know, I might offend many fans of her and Liu Hao Ran with the next statement, but to me, both are overrated idols who actually should never have gotten cast as the leads for a production like "EF". There are many talented young actrors and actresses out there, who get pushed back again and again just because those idols (not only LS or LHR) have a screaming fanbase. Sacrificing talent, because one of the idols needs a new role to make him or her shine - I'll never like it...
It looks like I'm the only who sort of likes his character. Historical accuracy aside, I like a foreign sidekick…
I like him too! He's cheeky, witty, a little bit annoying (like many sidekicks in many series), but he's also courageous and clever. I just finished episode 38, last night, and I think, he did a lot, including risking his life, same as Tan Qi and other friends, to ensure Zhang Xiao Jing to succeed in his mission. The only reason, people don't like him, lets face it, is because they want Tan Qi and Zhang Xiao Jing to end up in bed - but that's NOT what this drama is about! Shall they go and watch a romance drama, if they want romance!
I don't know if I should be happy or sad that the extra episodes that end the show early is due to China's August…
No worries, the series got high praise from all sides, so, it will surely be allowed to end like planned. If Youku is clever, they upload the missing ten episodes tonight (5) and on Thursday (5). Then, they are through.
Why is this tagged 'older woman/ younger man'? Having watched it a while ago, I had the feeling, the leading couple is pretty much of the same age...
But, well, must be hard to bear for some to have an actress in her thirties play the female lead in times where we have so many super late-teen girls and super early-twen girls performing well experienced doctors, lawyers, managers (bahaha...oh man how believable)...
Which actor would you say was a miscast? I'd say Larena Song, she needs more experience in smaller role before…
Yes, she's the one, I thought about! Also the way her character is written: The same idiot-bratty and pseudo-cheeky girl we got served a thousand times before. If I'd be a man, I'd ran in the opposite direction if she'd come my way...awful!
What a waste of time! I want the 100 minutes of time back, I wasted on this!
