That's my hope, too, although, I must say, I didn't regret watching it RAW. It was so intense and that well performed that I immediately forgot that I don't speak Mandarin. lol

You definitely should check out Zhou Yi Wei in "Shaolin Wendao". I still think, it's his most passionate and intense role. A fantastic drama series (sadly still unsubbed).
Anyone just wish Zhang and Tan qi would fk already? The tension between the two is killing me, Zhang is literally…
These two are hot like hell, It's been quite a while, since last I've been so much in love with a "couple". Actually, I love, who the tension builds up more and more and that they are not just "doing it". After all, it's still just a few hours that they know each other. ;)
Jiu Chen is just really lovely to watch on screen, and not just because Chang Chen has a nice face. His character…
This is a beautiful statement and, 12 epsidoes into the show, I have to revise my earlier impression, that Chen Cheng is not a match for the character he's supposed to play. Being always a fighter for the 40+ actors and actresses, I think, we have at least three extraordinarily great actors in this series (Chen Cheng, Huang Hai Bing and Mark Du), who all are the best proof that time's not up when you are 40+. I hope, you're ok with it, if I share your statement on my FB page "Love and Sword".
And the poor Xu Bin!!! Sooooo sad.... still crying!!!The scene, where Yao Ru Neng finds out...hearbreaking!!!
Totally agree! Aside the fact that the poor Xu Bin had to die twice in what are just a few hours in the show, I also think the sacrifice does more justoce to his charcater as we got to know him. Zhao Wei is an awesome actor. I already loved his sinister Mo Xian Sheng in T&E and I hope, we'll get to see him more often.
I might err, but I love to speculate a little when I'm in love with a story: Supposed we'd have more time with the characters than "just" one day, I guess, Long Bo might have gotten in trouble, if Ma Ge'er and especially Cao Poyan would have stayed alive. Especially the latter would possibly not have agreed so easily to Long Bo's orders any longer after his encounters with Zhang Xiao Jing.
And, yes, I feel you! Cao Poyan's death made me cry, too. The reunion with his little daughter in the afterlife. Heartbreaking! Wu Xiaoliang is incredible in this role and once again the casting team nailed it.
If I could, I'd kowtow in front of the whole cast and team. They'd deserve it!
And, yay, three more episodes, tomorrow... I feel like a junkie waiting for the next shot. lol

If I think about it, Xu Bin's death during the fire felt even more tragic as his survival after he got attacked by the fake runner left me with the hope, he might survive till the end of the show. So, speaking for myself, his death in the fire really hit me hard, especially in the way it got done. No horrible scene in the flames, but the horror reflected on Yao Ru Neng's face. THAT is masterly done.
As for Wen Ran's death: I didn't believe for a second that she's really dead. Both men, Ma Ge'er and Cao Poyan obviously had scruples to kill her (which I liked as it made them not just the brutal terrorist, but also human). So, when Yao Ru Neng found her, it was clear, she's still alive.
This series is so amazing if it comes to showing the small details. It surely needs one, two or more times of rewatching to get them all: a glance, as gesture, a blink...everything counts...a masterpiece.
Honestly I don't expect this show to do well in the West, even if we were to have properly done subtitles (I know…
You are right! It takes some time. The old "Water Margin" (1973) hit German TV in 1980, "A Touch of Zen" (1971) first got broadcast on German TV in 1985 or 1986 and "Dragon Inn" (1967) even later. The Zhang Yimou, Ang Lee and Tsui Hark movies also came with delay, but, still, they have their audience. So, I'm confident, that, if not this year, we will get to see some of the Chinese series on German TV in the years to come. People over here get tired with crime, hospital and soap opera series - a fresh breeze would be welcome.

I cannot speak for other countries, but I'd bet on it, if a series like "The Longest Day", "Nirvana in Fire", "Water Margin" (2011), "Day and Night" etc. would hit German TV it would be an enormous success. Because (1) it's exoctic (Nirvana), (2) it's crime (D&N), it's action (TLD), (4) they know WM. We would even get these dramas dubbed in high quality as Germany is known for high quality dubbing and extremely good voices. The demand is there, but as long as it's available on YT, people will stream and not ask their TV stations, if they'd air it. And as long people stream, why would China's drama industry see a reason to sell it to our TV stations.
The whole thing goes in circles: - People check out the web, find Chinese drama series and think that that's good, wherelse can I watch it... - they wonder where they can find it, does it come to movie theatres/do they show it on TV... - they get told stroies like 'why should China sell it to the world with such a big market in their own country'...let's buy another US-crime series...those are available anyway... - as people are lazy, they won't create a demand to show it on TV but go on streaming, find another drama, think it's good etc...
When "Princess Agents" rocked the world wide web, two years ago, it was even worth to get mentioned in our maintime news! That was the moment, when TV stations could have answered the call - and missed the chance...and people, as always, shrugged and went on as usual. Still, I think a high quality drama like "The Longest Day..." would have excellent chances to get shown over here. It's a series that could become another "Water Margin" (1973) success.

Don't underestimate the Westerners love for Asian movies and series. Here in Germany, Asian movies always had a strong fandom. The Japanese "Water Margin" series from 1973 got some of the highest ratings ever. The Martial Arts and Kung Fu movies of the 1970s and 1980s were a fix part of our TV program. The problem is: Today, we don't get fed it anymore as the TV stations only buy American action series and perhaps some European ones and not everyone wants to pay for Amazon Prime, Netflix & Co. If one of our TV stations would buy "The Longest Day..." it would be a hit series here in Germany and many fans of the old "Water Margin" series would willingly embrace "Water Margin" (2011) if they would bring it to us.
Epsiodes 5+6 were better, as we finally got to see some of the excellent veteran cast like Zhang Zhi Jian or Zhang Feng Yi with more screen time. The young trio in the lead failed to convince me, but out of all people the generation 60+ gave me some hope...
The silverlining on the horizon for this series are the veterans: Zhang Zhi Jian, Zhang Feng Yi & Co., but who, the heck, is responsible for having cast Lareina Song! I can't remember having seen a more annoying girl in a series for ages!!!

I'll try to cut the endcredit songs from the downloaded videos and convert them into audio files. That will do for now.
