im sorry i dont have anything again surfjava its just that im a huge seakeen and ive been there since day 1 so its hard for me to focus on the side couple đ
I mean, side couples are side couples and the main couple is the main couple. Idk why side couple fans complain…
Yeah, if the original novel had weak character development and pacing, then DMD definitely has a challenge ahead with Khemjira. Still, adaptations can sometimes improve on the source if the right choices are made so Iâm curious to see what they do with it.
As for CalvinJay, I can only speak for myself but I was genuinely invested in their arc. Even if their storyline didnât connect tightly to the main plot, that doesnât mean it didnât deserve proper development. Sometimes side stories can stand on their own if the characters are strong enough, and for me, CalvinJay had that potential. The issue wasnât that they existed - itâs that they werenât given the space to go anywhere.

Thatâs a good point - DMD definitely knows their audience and leans into what sells, which is usually the NC scenes. It makes sense from a business perspective, but itâs still a missed opportunity. They had the chance to balance fanservice with good storytelling, especially with a side couple like CalvinJay that had clear chemistry and audience interest.
Khemjira will definitely be interesting to watch. If the original novel had no NC scenes, it might push DMD to focus more on plot and character development. Hopefully, they treat it as a chance to show they can deliver more than just surface-level content.

I totally get that too much focus can sometimes dilute the appeal. But I donât think the answer is to give side couples barely anything just to keep people âwanting more.â Thereâs a difference between overexposure and giving them proper development. CalvinJay didnât need to take over the show - but some actual depth and closure wouldnât have hurt, especially considering how much build-up they had. Instead, we got tons of NC scenes with the leads that felt excessive and honestly took time away from more meaningful storytelling. For a lot of us, it's not about screen time for the sake of it - itâs about balance and narrative payoff.

Yeah, side couples are side couples - but that doesnât mean they should be treated like afterthoughts, especially when they end up being more interesting than the main couple. If all we were supposed to care about was the leads, maybe the writers shouldnât have given CalvinJay such chemistry and buildup. Also, watching random YouTube cuts isnât the same as getting actual development in the show. Not everyone is here just for the NC scenes.
bl of the year??
