It is a happy ending but a bit sad too
So in the novel they got together in the end but Jin Zhao had to get his leg amputated due to the last race. He trained so hard to look and live like a normal person but he still had shortcomings. He didn't want to worry Mumu that's why he stops contacting her after the race but they do meet after some years. But it is still happy because he has a degree and a really good job and is well settled. Mumu decides to love him again🥹. Idk if the marriage is after or before the race though
