the MDL 8/10 with around 800 watcher is quite underrated what the hell with u people are you only watching mainstream and popular actors drama?!!!
this drama has around 8.3/10 on douban which is quite good. this drama can challange almost any popular c-drama with 8.5-9.0 rated drama.

The show has very detailed throughout... every situation/event is explained later and there are very good twist & the shows keeps gets better with each episode.
pros: - acting 10/10 very good casting of actors (quite underated) - character development 10/10 - character bromance/sesame 10/10 - mystery & revelation 10/10 - character dynamics 10/10 - action 9/10 (farely good) - humor & comedy 9/10 - character are smart including villian and even side-characters 9/10 - immersion 10/10 (very good detailing like, fmc archer picking arrow after combat and manny other details if u notice).
cons (although i don't care about these points): - lack of romance although there is Subtle romance hint which is good every now and then. - First the story is hard to get into (might take 4-5 episode for it's tone) - low budget but very well made (you might not notice).
so finally why u should watch it? if u r into heavy mistry, mix of sci-fi+fanatsy, slowburn story with very fleshed out characters then go bliendly, u will not regert it.
for me overall rating is 9.1/10 and this drama is now in my top 5

i was first ongoing watcher but it's frustrating to wait + cliff hanger on episode end.
now i wait for show to cook itself for about 50-65% look at reviews then I start to watch.

Agreed ep3 was lot better & im enjoying quite a lot, now i only have fear if they make FL weak or damsel in distress kind for sake of plot!i hope it does not go that way.

you have made some fair points especially about the existence of pretty-looking boys in both historical contexts and C-drama. I also agree that fake moustaches can sometimes do more harm than good if they’re not done well.
That said, I still think the issue isn't just about facial features or whether a moustache is present, it's about how convincingly the FL embodies a male identity overall, especially in a setting like a military garrison where scrutiny would be much higher.
Even if she's supposed to pass as a young teenage boy now she seems more like tom-boyish than a guy. And when the other characters trained soldiers, no less don’t seem to even question her gender for a second, it feels more like the script is asking us to suspend disbelief without doing the work to earn it.
I’m not saying she needs to look like a manly man just that the direction, styling should give us enough cues to buy into the illusion. Right now (at least in Ep 2), the portrayal feels undercooked. If she’s meant to be a pretty boy that’s totally fine.
Like you said, maybe it’ll improve over time. I’ll keep watching. But so far, I just feel the production missed a chance to really sell the disguise especially when other dramas have shown it can be done really well.

silly yes but would at least make it convening - but here the FL is straight up look woman. which makes it look like the soldiers have nave seen woman in their lives.
In episode 2 FL arrive at garrison to start again as soldier as man (with proof of documents) but she does not look like man - she does not even have fake mustache or enough convincing dressing to be seen as man.
how do soldiers and ML cant even recognize famine qualities of woman? it's breaking immersion.
the production team should really should have taken few ideas from these c-drama ->

it does not matter how is the story, plot holes etc etc.
if there is steamy hot scene between ml & fl the ratings just shoots upto 8.1, 8.2 easily.
