Based on the rating and the comments here, I thought it was a must-see drama I'd already seen 14 episodes and…
The first half was like Ming-Lan, a slice-of-life drama. In the second half, that is where the ML's story comes into play and we get more plot, action and inter-action between the leads, with a surprise twist to the story. The series paid off in the end in my view.
FL is just here for screentime without any impact to the story. Lei Chun character got me back in this drama for…
FL is not as strong as the males in martial arts and is sidelined a bit; however, she ends up with the plot point that is the most important to the storyline later on so hang in there.
Honestly, I see no chemistry between these two, and the story is veryyy dragging
I like the actors but the story line is draggy as you mentioned. I almost didn't finish; however, I managed to struggle through by skipping a lot of the slow parts.
Final Thoughts: (my recaps are in the comments below)-The acting was superb, by every cast member. I think we…
You are on point about Zhao Lusi's acting chops. It's unfortunate that the background drama affected the series. It went from a satisfying amount of on screen fight sequences in the beginning to only seeing snippets of Lusi's scarf material flying through the air (almost comical) and the fight was over until we reached the fight sequences near the end where it picked up again. I'm alright with palace politics if it's interesting; however, this series lost the balance between the two in the middle section. Still a good watch.
It's surprising that Huang Sheng Chi is getting another main lead role before Chen Xun who has displayed more acting chops (Huang ML and Chen supporting in their next series). Hope he gets a lead role in a period costume drama soon.
That was def one issue with this drama in that the period drama was more interesting and had a better story line with more at stake for both of the leads given the time period. Their emotions came through more in that section as well. Unfortunately, the lost memory part got repetitive after awhile and dragged the series down a bit.
It's a good watch. It starts to gear toward politics before episode 20 and that gets boring after awhile. At least, they move the political shenanigans out of the City / Palace after a few episodes so it's not so repetitive. Hoping like the other response here that they explore the FL's background more in the upcoming episodes.
I'm wondering if the director hadn't been fired halfway through production, and was still in charge of the second…
It's almost like two different series at this point. I hope they get back to the original theme. So far "the traveling the world seeking justice" in the description has been lost to palace politics.
What is wrong with the rating gawdd ppl have to stop putting down a drama if u don't like it
I'm just thankful the long c-drama drought with no new shows coming out is over. I'll watch anything right now as long as it's decent and this looks like a good one.
