The quality of this show is so densly packed, it's almost too much to take in. The irrevrent humor towards the classic cdrama tropes paired with the super high quality execution of them. Fast, clever dialogue. Fantastic visuals. Really interesting sets, especially the Moonshade lair. Beautiful costumes, special mention- Lu Shiliu. And the music really adds to both the action and the humor. Such a fun watch so far!
I couldn't help but rewrite the conversation between Shan Chong and Wei Zhi's dad while doing dishes today and Wei Zhi's parents are such easy targets, all it would have taken was a single line to completely upend the argument.
Daddy Wei: We can't approve of your relationship with our daughter because of your inability to provide a stable income.
SC: While your ability to provide for Wei Zhi's material needs is commendable, my family and I can provide her with time, affection, attention, emotional connection, adventure and encouragement. All things that money can't buy and that you and her mom didn't provide.
Everyone Su Cheng Cheng has morphed into has done better acting than Landy Li! At this point, I am just watching…
I remember having a hard time with her acting in early episodes of Starry Love and then there was a shift in the narrative and she BECAME the character. Suddenly I understood why the casting director chose her. I think the theme here is that her "fitters" are supposed to be more appealing than her. They are revealing the colors of her character's beauty layer by layer. I have a feeling that by the end of the story she'll be able to shine.
The aesthetics, music, comedy, and acting are so on point in this show. Very high quality all around. A lot of of the main characters inner world is conveyed with micro expressions. Subtle and effective. But then the comedy is very physical and over the top. They pull off both. I'm impressed and enjoying myself a lot!
Thank you! I've seen so many positive comments I wondered if I was the only one who saw how wooden and lackluster this is compared to the original. All the warmth and affection and LIFE is missing.
Thanks for your review, I had a hard time understanding this series at first because of how it is filmed, it goes…
It sounds like there's a lot of dislike for the actor who plays the ML that's getting transferred to the character he's playing here. He does also seem to suffer a bit from "dead eyes" which I think people respond negatively to without entirely understanding why.
