One of the most touching, elegant and heart-wrenching family stories I've ever watched! Based on the best-selling, autobiographical book of the same name by Lily Franky, it tells the simple, ordinary story of a mother and sonβs love for each other, with an endearing and nuanced depiction of their bonding through laughter, joy, sacrifice, sorrow and loss. With the right balance between lightness and darkness, without any overplaying or forced feelings manipulations, with great performances from all cast members and beautifully complementing cinematography and music, this film was definitely a unique watching experience. And what can I say about late Kiri Kirin's magnificent performance, especially knowing her personal health struggles?
I just wanna say Suzy is an amazing actress. Her journey as an actress has been very challenging and motivational. She has reached here because of her immense dedication towards her work. I'm tired of seeing people always nit-picking on suzy's acting unnecessarily. Not every actor will have the same dramatic acting in every scenes. Some are subtle, like suzy, which in my opinion makes her character even more relatable. She has struggled a lot and don't you feel she's been bullied enough already in the past! Just leave her alone.
A social commentary about generation gap and miscommunication, ageing society, urbanization versus rural life, tradition versus modernity. Wonderful camera work, that captures beautifully the landscapes and the everyday life of their lucky inhabitants, as well as the intriguing world of Kagura dance tradition.
I feel like people don't grasp the nuances of the drama or maybe it's because it's a sensitive subject but I see a lot of extreme opinion about the characters without leaving them the benefit of the doubt. Relationships are not black or white, the same way humans are not either.
This comment section is rife with people who lack the maturity to watch this show with a clear lense. I'm really enjoying it so far, and this drama will undoubtedly be another victim of fickle viewers giving it low ratings because it doesnt align with their perceptions on relationships. The story so far, is refreshingly normal. I have friends who divorced for the same reasons, and others who find themselves in the same communication break downs with their partners. Its life. Its not always a dramatic affair, or a life-altering event. Sometimes its the day to day monotany that whithers a person away. I always feel like MDL reviews on these types of realistic romance dramas, or dramas that may or may not have an affair, brings out the most judgemental/conservative/immature people. TLDR; SKIP right on over these comments and watch it yourself. π
