Hwarang was quite soapy for me, so I'm keeping my expectations low. Even the novel doesn't have much plot - the first half is basically her talking about characters and NM, being quirky and all. the second half has 4 things only - the high school, rice cake, blood relations, NM, and husband. that's it. (wrote in a way it wouldn't be a spoiler)
I think that's why they are adding this murder mystery and the crowd-pulling cast...

They look really good together, so even if the plot is messy or too soapy, it'd still be watchable

It's 'inspired' by novel, not 'based' on novel. show probably starts where the novel ends.
