It is easy fast cheap writing.

I have a cousin that still watches Lifetime. Those poor women :-)
I watch all sorts of stuff - US, Asian, Germany, Italy, Mexico - and on it goes. As long as it i good - without a lot of tropes :-)

Hallmark? You mean those movies which shows women being vulnerable? Pretty sad stuff. You mean Lifeline?
I try to get the best of C/J/K dramas as I can - it is not easy - there is so much stuff out there that I don't like so I go to Netflix for a movie that is rated highly.

i just started and dropped Sarah on Netflix - it's all about purses and an interesting conjob.
I just keep trying to find those gems :-) not easy.

I’m sorry, but please, we really don’t need a love triangle. The chemistry between the ML and FL is a pure…
I agree, why do most series have love triangles? We know, that the SML never wins the battle- so why try? It is a long outdated trope. Thanks for bringing it up.

I like this series - at last ep 1 and 2! Looking forward to the next episodes.
I'm enjoying this trope of two people taking care of a child or two
Yes, Hollywood has had one or two of these films.
I've not seen a K/J/C Drama with this trope.

This should have solely focused on ML + FL and trying to make their relationship work despite power dynamics.…

Well, I guess those who like K dramas should just watch K dramas.
I watch K/J/C dramas for different reasons.
One can't compare one genre with the other.

I think you should try Cdramas then, they might be to your liking.
I can't disagree with you more - take Hidden Love, Road Home, Fireworks in my Heart, Meet Yourself, Amidst a Strong Snowstorm of Love, and so on.

I watch J, C, and K dramas, and I look for different aspects in each genre.

These last two episodes have been so good- not too often that a show gets better by each episode. The misunderstandings…
Yes, the last two episodes were excellent- I'm glad you pointed that out. Good acting by Ahn Bo Hyun, and, of course, his new hairstyle and clothes make him the attractive man he is. So we wait for the last two episodes.
The first episodes were more cartoon-like, but it got more serious as we watched episodes 9 and 10.

What a lovely surprise - I was almost about to give up on K dramas!!!

I live in California, and we can't watch kdramas here either.
wow, thank you minicooper9!!! I will l'll try your suggestion. Maybe if I used Hulu/Disney combo I would be able to get K dramas. However it is really expensive here in the US. I got a 3 months offer for Hulu/Disney combo at a low price (an offer) but after that it goes up to about $20/month. I don't know if that is worth it - I use IQ, VIKI, Netflix and Prime - so that adds up. I'll let you know if your idea works. I don't like to use Kiss either but in a pinch!

Do you have a minicooper? They are so cute. Thanks again.

The same thing happened to me, but differently:
I was watching Positively Yours on my TV and suddenly the subs dissapeared right in front of my eyes!
Then I watched it on my computer screen, and the subs were still there.

I have to write to Viki to see what's up!

Agree, but this is a K-drama, an overused K-drama trope!

There’s a lot of discussion here about how “authentic” newer K-dramas feel, and a recurring worry that many recent shows are basically Western-style stories with Korean actors and settings. I think it might help to recognize that there are now two fairly distinct paths emerging in K-drama production:

1. Traditional / Culture-preserved K-dramas
These stay true to classic Korean storytelling tropes, cultural values, family dynamics, and emotional rhythms—think sageuk, classic rom-coms, or melodramas that feel unmistakably Korean. They tend to satisfy viewers (both Korean and international) who love the familiar heart and structure of “old-school” K-dramas.

2) Globally influenced / hybrid K-dramas
These borrow more heavily from international (especially Western) storytelling styles—faster pacing, genre-blending, morally complex characters, or themes that feel less rooted in traditional Korean social norms. Some people love this evolution and see it as K-dramas growing up and speaking to a wider audience; others feel it dilutes what makes K-dramas special.

I feel that both paths can coexist, and both can produce excellent shows. Viewers can simply choose the flavor they prefer. For me personally, I don’t draw a hard line. If the writing is strong, the characters feel real, and the story moves me—whether it’s deeply “Korean” or more globally flavored—I’ll happily watch it.

What do you think: do you prefer one direction over the other, or are you like me and just want good stories regardless of the style?

Thank you!

Interesting reply - I've been watching more C dramas than K dramas but you are right, Idol I is my first preference, Spring Fever, very cute, Love me, if you have the stomach to watch it is also very good.
Basically K dramas need to get rid of the drinking binge (especially for women), get rid of the over used tropes etc)
However, K dramas are trying to make some changes for the better - I'm watching
Can this Love Be Translated on Netflix and I have to say that it is entirely different from the normal K drama. Interesting.

Yes, Dynamite Kiss was basically a cartoon with real characters - so embarrassing.
