Well there is more than one definition to intimacy, I think maybe in this one they mean connection, closeness, this couple has been to hell and back with each other, have been torn apart by fate, time, memory, and even the people around them, but somehow they always manage to make it back to each other, loving each other. Their bond is unbreakable, and that in a way can be more intimate than physical intimacy. Those are just my thoughts anyway :)
