People keep criticizing Fei yu’s acting without even understanding how Duan Xu character is written. Maybe try letting go of those stereotypes you have in your heads when watching different dramas, Not every role is meant to fit your usual expectations, especially when the plot is still unfolding.

In the novel he is only 19 when he meets He Simu, and it’s his first military assignment So he’s not meant to have that heavy "gravitas", the youthful energy actually fits the character rather than being a flaw.
My only complaint about POJ is that it really needed more than 40 episodes to fully do the story justice. There’s so much depth in the plot that a lot of it deserved more space on screen, and I really wish we had more time to properly go through everything, and even enjoy it for a little longer. (I’m saying this as a novel reader, don’t get me wrong).
