I wholeheartedly agree with your comment above. What really made me upset was HOW her mother belittled her in front of such a crowd (we’re talking about the imperial family here). As you said, she could’ve phrased her wording differently or cleverly decline/delay the marriage proposal so that it doesn’t hurt her daughter’s reputation and most importantly her emotions. The fact that CSS mentioned to her parents she “had no choice” is a clear indication of how aware she is of her surroundings and the situation that she’s in. It was just the wrong approach by the mother.

Thank you. 😊 I grew up in a very strict Asian family, so I understand some of the conservative cultures. With that experience, I wanted to bring up my daughter in a different, healthy growing way. I just don’t agree with the mother’s actions, no matter what justification was used and what time era (given that this is a drama). That’s why I had to give my two cents on today’s episodes. 😊

I’m more of a silent reader on MDL, but today’s episode got me 😤. I'm waiting for next week’s episodes, where I hope LBY will put YS in his place after calling CSS “viscous”. We already saw how LBY’s response to the ladies when they came uninvited and verbally attacked CSS. I wonder what he will say to YS. 😂
This has been mentioned below already about CSS’s mother, but I am utterly speechless. Being a mother myself, I could never imagine myself treating my 6-year-old daughter the way CSS was treated by her mother. It’s hard enough trying to instill some confidence in a young child (as I do with my daughter), but imagine talking down about your 15-year-old daughter (who has abandonment issues and had to learn to defend her own self) in front of a crowd such as we saw in the drama. This is traumatizing and I wouldn’t be surprised if CSS will hold that resentment for a long time.
The excuses CSS’s father came up with are not good enough. He’s enabling his wife by siding with her and trying to get CSS to see their reason. He’s never once been firm with his wife to show her maybe she’s wrong. I understand you love your wife, but not at the expense of your daughter’s emotions and quite frankly her reputation.
Love that LBY was the only one who stood up for her. He’s always been unconditional with her from the very beginning. He accepts her for who she is, and I think CSS is starting to see that when she asked him whether he would marry her, knowing her faults and everything. That “Of course” answer of his sealed her decision to marry. And who wouldn’t agree after that confession of his?
Finally, I couldn’t love CSS’s character more than I do at her confrontation with her parents at the end of E24. She stated what we thought as viewers. Being labeled as worthless by her mother in front of people who normally laugh at her. Despite that, she still has her self-esteem and pride. “I want to live with dignity.” 👏👏👏 Good for her, knock some sense into her mother.

Love your analysis on him. 😂 One great thing about this drama is that every character is there for a reason. We may not like his character, but he’s there for a reason. Just like Niaoniao is there is help with Luo Yao and Ling Buyi’s character growth. The same will apply to Yuan Shenjian in the future.
