The familial relationships, bromance, and friendships in thE Untamed are sooo well made, it is the best you will find. But just because it is rated so high, doesn't mean you will like it as well. I know The Untamed is high up there and I freaking LOVE that show, but walk in with no expectations. And pls do not give up in the first few episodes!
So.... Let me answer this with my thoughts since many seem to give theirs.
As u might already know, this drama is adapted from a book. And in the book... well let's just say that nothing can beat the everlasting love between the leads. Nothing at all. Their love for each other is SUPREME and SUPERIOR to anything you can think of.
The drama, on the other hand, has romantic undertones. (No kisses, or any explicit content at all. Completely PG7 and filled with bromance) But it's more fulfilling and wholesome than most romantic dramas I have watched. You just have to be in the look out for the heartwarming scenes and I assure you, you will smile if not squeal.
I suggest you give it a try and judge it for yourself. There's a reason behind the hype for this drama and it was earned rightfully so!

Oh there's a sad ending as well... There are two version of the movie. In the happy ending, despite getting into a car accident, Shu Nian survives and is somewhat crippled but he ends up with Xie Yan. But in the other version, Shu Nian get's into a car accident and dies while Xie Yan finds out about his death a while later over the phone... I bet one cannot stand that after watching two movies...
So... because of a mistake my friend made while recommending, I ended up watching this before the first movie... and because I was too curious, I rushed through the first movie in 15 mins.... And I liked the first part better... it was less depressing even tho it had some crazy stuff towards the end.... Uhhh... I messed this series up for myself ig haha....
It was a decent watch. Nothing out of the ordinary, and if u decide to skip this one, you won't be missing out on anything much. But if you give it a try, it's not a complete waste of time either.
