Yep, I've noticed the pink lipstick on men in Thai BL's. In "Secret Crush on You," the pink was even brighter than usual.

I am trying hard to enjoy this show, but to do so I need to overlook the basic premise. Sometimes it's better for a show to come up with a simple premise -- such as "Your Dating Sim" with the premise of a guy confessing to his 1st love, and then seeing that 1st love 7 years later at a new job. A simple premise like this can be wonderful if handled well.

I don't need to prove that I'm smart; it's evident in my writing skills, which you're too stupid to recognize. But for the record, I am an English Professor with a PhD from Columbia University. That is an Ivy League that rejects 97% of its applicants, and would most certainly reject a moron like you. I am stupid in one regard, however, which is that I replied again after saying I would not. Wow, thank you for such a beautifully articulated review. I agree down the line. Although I might like it even more than you did because it's even on my list of Top 10 Japanese Films. Heck, it's on quite a number of critics' Top 100 Japanese Films -- which is how I had discovered it.

You want me to write more thoughtfully? Sweetheart, I could write with the thoughtfulness of Shakespeare and you still would lack grade level reading comprehension, so what's the point? You also lack a standard grip on the most common feature of any persuasive argument, which is to make concessions to the other party on particular points, but not on one's primary thesis.

Concessions are made to both learn from the other party, and to bridge understanding with them, rather than to alienate them. That is why everyone on this thread engaged with me and we had a constructive discussion. Your method is to alienate your reader, which is why nobody on this thread responded to you. Well, nobody but me. And, henceforth, I won't be responding to you either.

There are a half dozen other people on this thread and all have been engaging with me in a mature, intelligent fashion, even when they disagreed. You are the only one who's been hostile. So, is the upshot to the whole argument here that I cannot watch this show with English Subs because I do not have Instagram and Twitter? Because I have neither. I am 55 years old and keep my online activity to the essentials, such as email and Facebook (and I barely use FB at that).

Would that unnamed country be Thailand? lol. They make the most BL's in the world (50-60 a year, which means they crank them out once a week), while also making the worst. It's a classic case of quantity over quality. They should slow down and get back to the days when they made quality BL's like "I Told Sunset About You."

Thank you so much for your reply. I never knew that Korean age was different until now and, thus, I just did some research on it. Wow, how interesting! I also learned that as of June 2023, one will no longer be allowed to use their Korean age on official documents. One must use the international age only. Apparently, with the advent of the internet and globalization Korea wants its people's ages to be consistent with the rest of the planet's. Good idea!

It gives dates for the 7 years since they'd last seen each other. It says:

2015, they were 20
2019 they were 24
2022 is the present when they are 27

But isn't 20 old for high school seniors? Are they actually in college? Because I was only 18 when I graduated high school and most of my classmates were 17.

This is 10 eps of 35 each, which comes to 6 hours. How are they going to fill 6 hours with just this main couple? They are already growing dull, and it's only been 2 hours of them. I was looking forward to the side couple because I like the hottie with the tattoos (he was in another BL called Make Me Dance and he is good). I also think the Cafe Guy is good. I cannot tell if the Potter is a good actor or not, as he might just be stiff because he's playing against someone who cannot act. Either way, I feel no heat with the main couple, whereas I felt sexual tension with the side couple in the mere 5 minutes they were together on screen. But you say they are hardly in the manhwa -- boohoo! lol

My Beautiful Man only got a 7.8 on MDL but it was such a hit in Japan that it got 2 sequels (another series plus a movie). I hope the same holds true for this show.

But I'm curious, what charts are you referencing? Is it a rating in Korea? Or Asia overall?

OK, I remember that scene. But they also asked people if they had crushes on anyone and he said he had a crush on somebody who was not there. And we know who that is! lol

Agree 100%. I am only tuning in to see the side couple. But so far we've gotten so little of them that I am losing hope of ever getting more. If we still don't get more with them next week, then I'm dropping this.

Can someone who's read the manhwa tell me if we're ever going to get more with the side couple? Because there's been 4 eps of 35 min each and yet we haven't had more than 5 min total of this couple interacting with each other.

Maybe people entered lower ratings after eps 3/4, but it took MDL time to actually calculate the new total, which is why it didn't appear until today. If so, the rating should go up again next week, because everyone has loved eps 5/6.

OMG, the little one is adorable! And his boyfriend has a similar vibe to An Zi Yan from "Like Love." They're both very tall with a straight, erect gait. They also both wear these delightfully deadpan expressions whenever their little boyfriends are being silly.

Double Mints is the only film on that list. But I decided to include it among the series because, like all J-BL series, it's adapted from a manga word for word, frame by frame. Although it does differ insofar as the director, Uchida Eiji, is pretty famous for art-house feature films (eg, "Love and Other Cults"), and a raunchy series about porno director ("Naked"), while the average BL director only does other BL's and/or fluff.

As for "Like Love," I rewatched it recently and had to add it to my list for its sheer campiness alone (there's even some ABBA on the soundtrack). Come to think of it, the C-BL "Falling In Love with My Rival" is also campy. Damn, the Chinese were pretty good at BL's before the ban.

The show gets better as it goes. Meanwhile, the rating gets lower as it goes. Just another day in MDL Bizarro Land.
